ANIMEMUSE

2more weeks till we get to the best part of the season

Richard Davies

Wow, X-Files and this are both Memento Mori , what are the chances 😄

Filip

not that great episode, but mid season two parter is gonna be sick

Stef Furness

Only made better in that Val actually references binge-watching X-Files in the episode.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Oh my god you got a message from Walter! That's so fucking awesome. An amazing gift! He seemed so happy to be doing that.. it was so genuine, and I loved his story about his name and Don not being able to say "airman" with his accent! 😂

Lady Beyond The Wall

Okay - now that I finished the episode: It's obviously not the best episode or anything and it was definitely different. It's not a big favorite of mine, howEVER: There's some good things about this episode I really do like. I think everyone knows I'm a big fan of Vala/Daniel. I'm a Vaniel? Dala? Daniala? shipper. 😂 So one: I felt bad for Vala when she totally thought she was on a real date with Daniel and he was just like "uhhhh wat, no". It's a good thing she doesn't embarrass easily, because if it were me, I'd just die right there from embarrassment. Second, Daniel's actions showed how much he really does care about Vala. Maybe not in a romantic way, but he was sleep deprived and doing everything he could to find her. Then, their interaction at the end where she remembered she had friends and remembered Daniel absolutely makes me tear up. Partly because I just love those two characters but also because seeing someone cry, whether in real life or on tv/movies makes ME cry. I just thought it was a very sweet interaction and Daniel explaining that she has friends, she made a decision to stop running and that it's time to come home just pulls on my heartstrings. And last but not least, she finally gets to become an official member of SG-1! And that's just awesome for her. It's obvious it means a lot to her. So while not a super great episode, some of the stuff in the episode is important and gives some more development for Vala and for Daniel, which I appreciate. Anyway, looking forward to SGA! Edit: And just as a quick side note not related to the episode: To anyone affected - I'm so sorry about the loss of Queen Elizabeth. As an American, she wasn't my Monarch, but she's been around my (and many other people's) entire life, and it's going to be very strange without her. I was personally very sad to hear about her passing, no matter how old she was. That's all. 💕

Timothy Nikiforovs

I've never been a big fan of the monarchy(or monarchies in general. I can't get behind a system where someone gains power simply for being born). That said, I do think Elizabeth deserved a lot of respect on a personal level, and I know a lot of people admired her. However with her passing, I feel it's time for Canada to dispense with it's ties to the monarchy and become a republic. Without Elizabeth, I can't pretend to care about the rest of them.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Definitely agree with you about monarchies in general (I mean, I'm American, lol). And yeah, she does deserve respect - the people being dicks about it are just..rude? You can hate the monarchy but still understand that someone a lot of people cared about died. I just can't get behind the people who are celebrating her death and I don't understand the weird trend of celebrating the deaths of people you may not like lately. Makes me hate the internet sometimes. 😂 I agree that now would be a good time though, if ever, for whichever countries that want to cut ties with the monarchy to do so. I'm interested to see if anything happens. I think she alone was sort of the glue that held it all together, so we'll see what happens now that she's not here to do that. I just wanted to pay my respects to anyone who was saddened by her passing.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Of all the actors to get a cameo from, Gary Jones seems like the one you'd appreciate most(next to main cast members like Shanks or RDA of course). Also not only on the same week, but 2 adjacent posts for eps both called Memento Mori(had me confused scrolling down patreon for a second), plus Vala watching X Files and the actor for Agent Pendrell...........that's just uncanny how it lined up. I get the criticisms of this episode, and it is an unusual one, but then there are only a dozen episodes left and not a lot of time to get Vala centric episodes in, so I at least appreciate a story centered around her, as well as some sweet scenes between her and Daniel. Also at the end there officially becoming a member of SG1. I love how her whole ordeal not knowing who she was or who to trust was analogous to her whole life in a way, always being on the run. In both cases though, Daniel is the one who convinced her to stop running, and in doing so she found a family in SG1. Not much advancement on the main plot aside from a mention of this "key to infinite treasure", but we're closing in on the end so not too many side story episodes like this left.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Yeah I totally agree. People can be savage for no reason at all, or maybe they have reasons(First Nations for example) and direct that anger at the easiest target so to speak. As you say, she was like the glue holding it together. I tolerated the institution because of respect for the woman herself. I don't have anything in particular against Charles, Diana used her position to try and do some good in the world, and Harry and William to their credit put on the uniform and served(even if their commanders went out of their way to protect them). I don't wish ill on the royals(that POS Andrew excluded), and if they're still VIPs and get parades and fanfare on visits, I could care less, but I' opposed to any official role in government, no matter how muted.

Lady Beyond The Wall

It's very interesting times at the moment, for a lot of countries I think. The past few years feels like it's had decades of big events all crammed into just a few years. I don't want to get too political, though I assume people could probably guess my political leanings, but I don't want to argue (because that always seems to be what happens now if someone knows how I feel politically. I swear I used to have friends with all different political ideologies, but it seems like that's impossible now for some people in my country - with many people literally disowning family members and lifelong friends over who they voted for). But with Elizabeth passing, and my country's President having recently given a very...non-unifying speech, I'll say as politely as I can, there's talk of separation here, and some groups of people all of a sudden can't deal with people who think differently than them and simply want them just.. gone; the future feels quite uncertain. I feel like I'm living through some years that will be in history books (if we have history books later and don't kill ourselves first) and it's a strange feeling. I just hope we all make it through this, honestly.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Part of me feels like political parties shouldn't exist. In each electoral district/riding each candidate simply runs their own platform, without having to follow one rule book or another. Basically a government of independents. Now how you'd go about selecting a president/prime minister is another question(weighted ballots/rounds of elimination voting). That way everyone votes their own principles(the ones they were elected on) on issues and bills, and you don't have this polarized "left vs right" tribalism. Hearing someone voted for a certain party makes it too easy to dismiss them as this or that without hearing what they think on individual issues. Its just very divisive overall.

Lady Beyond The Wall

I absolutely agree with all of that. Maybe one day.. It's crazy though, to me, that here in the US, you can be called all kinds of names and have all kinds of things assumed about you for simply agreeing with and wanting to follow/keep things like the 1st and 2nd amendment (of which I'd defend both until my dying breath; though I do understand people from elsewhere may not fully understand why people are so adamant about the 2nd amendment, but I'm always happy and willing to explain).. and a few others. It's just getting crazy out here. And sometimes feels like my country is falling apart.. Sorry for laying out my emotions all over the place!

Timothy Nikiforovs

I was never opposed per se to the 2nd amendment, though in the past maybe felt Americans took it a tad too seriously(usually thinking of grand scenarios like the military being turned against the people that just sound preposterous). But after some of what's happened in Canada over the last year, I understand much better why Americans defend it so rigorously. It never starts with something so dramatic as that.

Lady Beyond The Wall

"But after some of what's happened in Canada over the last year, I understand much better why Americans defend it so rigorously. It never starts with something so dramatic as that." Precisely. Most tyrannical governments in the past that made their citizens (or certain groups of people) give up their arms didn't just immediately attack their citizens. It was mostly a fairly slow and insidious process, some of which ended in genocide or mass deaths. Along with personal protection (a lot of people haven't been murdered, robbed or raped simply by having a firearm), that's exactly why people would defend that right with our lives and find it.. disturbing, I guess, that some people are okay with and WANT the government having weapons, but the populace having none. Some people tend to forget that history repeats, or rhymes. Besides that - anti-2nd amendment people generally think it "wouldn't matter" because the military would destroy everyone fighting back anyway due to superior power. But our country is huge and our country, even with our technology, have lost most wars in which the "enemy" fought with guerilla tactics, which is what most American's fighting would do in such a situation. It doesn't mean we think it WILL happen. It's just in case it does. And disarming the populace would only increase the chances of something like that starting to happen, in my opinion. Maybe not in my generation, or the next, or even the next after that.. but we're human, so.. at some point it would be possible.

Asher Levin

Are you reacting to SGU @fail? Also - glad you enjoyed the Cameo.

James Yancy

I've heard decent arguments for a Monarchy in the strictly Figurehead sense. The US President fulfills the role of Figurehead for the US, and it can be reasonably argued that the role on top of Chief Executive of the country can be counterproductive and detrimental to the unity of the Nation. An apolitical Figurehead at least provides a focus for National Unity outside of the politics of the day.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Ah, you're the awesome person who sent him the Cameo! Thank you so much for doing that. It was such a great gift to give someone. 💕 And yes, I do believe he will be. I'd be disappointed if he didn't, but I'm 99.9% sure others have said he's doing all the series. It's part of the larger Stargate Universe after all!

Meta

I felt this season has the best and the worst episodes of the show. Like if they decided to put all the money on, lets say 6, epidodes. Some of them also planting plots for an 11th season that would never come. So it felt a bit clanky as a season.

Teth

I know! Vala's reaction to their date being a not-date was so sad. Also, who is he kidding?

Teth

I can't believe you got a message from Gary Jones! 😱 That is so cool how Walt got his name though both RDA and Don. After this and your run-in with Rainbow, all we need is Zelenka. Not the best episode, but it brings up some relevant stuff regarding Vala as a character. And her and Daniel are just so goshdarn cute.
