We saw the First Evil in season 3, the episode called Amends. It was the Christmasy episode. The First showed up as Miss Calander (the teacher Giles dated and Angelus killed). It tried to get Angel to kill himself. Buffy confronted The First underground, in that tree lot full of dead Christmas trees. It talked to Angel as different people, changing from person to person exactly as it does this season, then talked to her as Jenny Calendar and then turned into this ghostly kind of monster thing. Hopefully that helps you remember.

Hard to believe there's only 12 episodes of Buffy left. Crazy how time flies. I didn't talk about it in the previous episodes but RIP to Jonathan. He's was the one member of the trio that I would say was genuinely redeemable. Kinda sad that after everything he went through from trying to kill himself to presenting Buffy with the Class Protector award and everything else, that he just ends up buried in some random shallow grave out in the desert. Also it's really hard to read what's going on with Wood right now. Is he an agent of The First, or is he being manipulated like Spike. Could he be an agent of the watchers? Does he just know more about this supernatural stuff and is just working independently. Maybe he's just a really devoted principal and doesn't want the bad press of a body in the basement. Speaking of the watchers, RIP to them as well. As much as they've been insufferable in the past, recently they seem to have really turned the page and tried to develop a more equitable relationship with the slayer. I mean Travers was prepared to pack up and bring the whole organization to Sunnydale to assist Buffy in the fight, so respect where it's due. At this point, it's been almost exactly 4 seasons since The First showed up, as Raven said in the episode called Amends. It was certainly somewhat underwhelming at the time, but I guess there's only so much you can do with non corporeal. It really all boils down to it's agents. The Harbingers are not super impressive in a straight up fight, but the really do move like ninja monks. I mean they blew up the watcher's council and assassinated a bunch of potential slayers and watchers. They're certainly dangerous. Then there's the uber vampire, the Turok Han. I guess that's what a pure vampire really looks like, before the vampire/human hybrids we've known for the whole show. If you actually compare pictures of the uber vamp to The Master, it looks like he's almost on his way to turning into one of them(very similar facial features, skin tone, and pointed ears). He was very old. Maybe after enough centuries, especially if they really embrace the vampire side of themselves, the human half starts to fall away. Even before getting a soul, Spike enjoyed the world for what it was, he embraced elements of humanity and culture. But someone like the Master who has no use for his human side, maybe over time the pure vampire form starts to emerge. I agree about the speech at the end though. Nice pep talk, but where's this confidence coming from? You're looking like an over tenderized steak. I mean that uber vamp beat the shit out of her. I feel like even Glory or Adam didn't do that kind of damage. Also surely that isn't the only one. If stakes don't work and this one is giving the only real slayer in the room THAT much trouble, what exactly IS the plan? At any rate, 2 really good episodes. Fans have a lot of mixed feelings on this season, but at least the plot is really chugging along now.

Now that they have named the big bad as "The First Evil" I can now tell you the episode where we've seen "The First" before, I withheld the name in the last post, but now it's been named, so go watch season 3 episode 10 "Amends" This is how Buffy knew what The First Evil was in this episode you just watched. It's been a while, so go check out that episode and the pieces will start to fill in.

So in Episode 10 we finally have the big lore dump we were hoping for this season, you wondered what the big bad is, well it's been revealed in great detail too, so this is a very important episode. The first evil, the evil that all other evil stems from, evil nature itself so to speak, which is a very interesting concept, we aren't just dealing with some random powerful god or demon, this time, it's nature itself, the root of all evil, I mean how do you beat that!?!? We also know the First's motive now, to take out the entire slayer line so there is no more slayer, that destroys the balance, and Evil takes over, from what I gather. We are now also introduced to the uber vamp which is like a proto-vampire or prehistoric vampire, and they are tough, so tough. They have brought in "potential" slayers, but there has still never been a clear definition given of what makes a person a "potential slayer" ask yourself this, how do they know a person can potentially become a slayer if one dies? How could that information possibly be known? They haven't answered that. IN addition, we KNOW for a fact that the death of Buffy won't trigger a new slayer. When she died at the end of Season 5, no new slayer was called. For this fact alone I can't believe none of the scoobies picked up on this and said anything, especially Giles. As it sits now, Faith holds the slayer line, only if she dies, is a new slayer activated. They keep forgetting that Faith exists! That really makes me upset.

One more thing I want to say, that always bothers me, when the group asks and says "So Buffy is the only one" as in who can help them, I just want someone to shout out "Well, there's Faith".... it could be like an awkward silence in the room as the potentials ask: "Who is Faith?" and the rest of the gang says, "Well, she's in Jail" and then an awkward silence ensues...... But come on, she's the one that the slayer lineage rests with, and it's like everyone has gone stupid forgetting that fact.
