Like you said the same old repeated theme. I'm beginning to doubt those who said that the show got better later on. There's nothing we didn't see in the first 3 series in here. Even the good episodes are a slightly less obvious alteration on the same premise we've seen to ad nauseam.

I think when people say the show’s later seasons are better they are talking more of the show being more consistent - as in, there are fewer truly awful episodes (eg the troll eps in season 2!) The stagnation/ repetition of certain plot points is the show’s greatest and constant flaw, even in season 5.

I have to agree with the current consensus. Pretty meh. S4 felt like a real turnaround for the series, and was honestly quite good throughout, and S5 started fairly strong(and may yet finish as such), but it's falling into the same formulaic patterns again. The thing is this, if Gwen is going to be brainwashed and trying to kill Arthur, if this is such a serious situation, can we dispense with the goofiness and forced humor? Can we actually set a truly grave tone for the episode that matches the story? When there are only 6 episodes left, it's time to start having a sense of motion toward the ending, not wasting screen time on narrative feints and dancing around the status quo. Everything should be about progression at this point, and at least in terms of execution, that progression just isn't here.
