If you think identity politics are a thing in modern Americas, woah Billy Ba'al, hold your Hannahs! Tighten up, protect the gate, and, for cryin' out loud, get Jack a clean line of fire!!

Teth

That stargate lamp blew my mind! The craftsmanship! Not my favourite episode but an important one to show how things are progressing in the galaxy and with our allies. Always happy to see Bra'tac, Jacob and Rak'nor.

Glad you liked the gate, man. Make sure Dooski doesn't go through there without a GDO. I ordered that thing months ago back when you were doing S4 I think. Better late than never I guess. New background lighting for SG1 reactions!! Yes, Allegiance. Easily one of my favourites of the season, for multiple reasons. First, as close as the tok'ra and jaffa came to trading blows(actually they DID trade blows, but at least they weren't trading staff blasts) it shows that Earth's efforts are bearing fruit and a real coalition is starting to form against the goa'uld. Also as much as the show gives O'Neill shit for not being the diplomatic one, Jack really put on his Daniel shoes here and actually did a good job keeping the peace. He was a bit abrasive about it, and that "Teal'c.....stop" was positively anemic, but overall he really stepped up to prevent a conflict, so props to Jack here. Also I just love the slow mo scene when O'Neill just whips out the M249 and starts spraying bullets. Honestly though, If I'm the ashrak, I'm probably hitting the deck too till he's done. Still a cool scene. This is also one of the most effective demonstrations IMO, even more than the reetou or Nirrti, of how dangerous an invisible opponent can actually be. Peter DeLuise did a fantastic job at making the ashrak truly terrifying. The level of strategy and manipulation going on pointed to an extremely cunning foe. Also this episode was a great excuse to bring in a lot of recurring characters (Bra'tac, Jacob, Rak'nor) and introduce some new ones. Malek stands out to me in particular. At first glance he's a bit of a prick, but that's par for the course for tok'ra. Still, he seemed genuinely remorseful for having failed to save Bra'tac, and he was the only one to step up and stand side by side with O'Neill against the ashrak. He might not be much more likeable than most tok'ra, but he proved himself honourable, and even Rak'nor could acknowledge that. He does demonstrate however that the tok'ra are spies, not soldiers. Note how O'Neill sprayed some bullets over Teal'c to at least get the ashrak off him. Malek just froze up when it was attacking Bra'tac, when he should have fired a few zat blasts around him. Certainly when Bra'tac was grabbed and being pulled away, he should have zatted Bra'tac, which would transfer the shot through to the ashrak that was in contact with him, potentially giving a few seconds of vulnerability to hit him again(preferably after he let go of Bra'tac). Also I really love the symbolism of the tok'ra using the stargate event horizon as part of their funerary rites. To the tau'ri, the stargate is a tool of exploration and a means to acquire technology, to others it's useful for trade and travel, and to the goa'uld it's a weapon of conquest. To the tok'ra however the stargate is life. Their bases are always built close to the gate, ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. They can never win in a straight up fight with the goa'uld, and without easy access to a gate the tok'ra would have perished long ago. For a tok'ra burial to utilize the very means to their survival is rather poetic I think. I'm disappointed though that you could think our man Bra'tac would just start murdering in cold blood. This guy is the uncle Iroh of SG1!! I always took the shots focusing on him to just show he was putting on his detective cap and figuring out how the victims died. Also the timing of that save at the end. My favourite moment of the episode though has to be his speech at the end(one of his best throughout the series IMO). It's such a powerful, uplifting moment, and while centuries of mistrust and conflict may not be overcome in a day, it's clear by the end that the bond between the tok'ra, tau'ri, and jaffa is significantly stronger than before, and that's definitely a mark in the "win" column. The goa'uld better watch out. Edit - Also I just remembered that after Bra'tac explained how he survived, Jack says "not bad". They still have that back and forth going from way back in the S2 premier.

Oh wow, that's a great gift Timothy! I have literally no Stargate merch, despite it being my favorite show, so this is making me want to look a few things up. 😂 About the episode though: It's hilarious you thought Bra'tac was up to some shit, because that thought never crossed my mind the first time I watched it I think. I think he just always has that "look" about him. It definitely made me laugh though! Also - I never thought about it before, but this episode does definitely have a sort of Expanse S4 vibe to it. Or rather, the other way around I guess! Anyway - it's not my favorite episode, but it's a necessary one I think.

James Yancy

One of the interesting points in the episode were the demonstrations of just how advanced Bra'tac and Teal'c are as warriors. They both sensed the Ash'rak's presence, although Bra'tac did so just a bit sooner than Teal'c, showing that although Teal'c is indeed (😉) an advanced warrior, he still has some growing before he's quite at Bra'tac's level.

Geonn Cannon

Peter Stebbings, who plays Malek, and a woman who plays a character named Major Gant in a few later S6 episodes named Ingrid Kavelaars, were main characters on a show called Jeremiah that filmed at the same time/place as SG-1. They were fans so they kept sneaking over to the other set to see what the SG team was up to, and eventually someone just said, "Hey, you guys wanna guest star?"

Geonn Cannon

Oh, and Corin Nemec was barely in the episode because he was getting married.

Timothy Nikiforovs

the seller is CraftyPics on Etsy. Out of stock now and last I checked only doing UK orders due to covid. They come back from time to time though.

Timothy Nikiforovs

That's cool. I was just reading the other day how Zach Selwyn who was on G4's Attack of the Show back in the day had made a rap video about the spinoff series(and wanting to be in it) and was invited to guest star as a result. Also X Files fans may remember Peter Stebbings from the episode Gender Bender

Teth

I never knew that, that's such a sweet story. He even got to play one of the nicer tok'ra.

Geonn Cannon

He did! And Teryl played Jeremiah's mother in a flashback on their show (but I think that was more a result of the Vancouver talent pool being kind of shallow and a lot of their top actors just floating from show to show... you see the same thing with the X-Files and their near-weekly Stargate crossovers. ;) )

Am i the only one refreshing to see if he uploaded the next episode? xD

Yeah idk, it is summertime and i guess he might have family over idk. But this season is so good i wish he he did an episode every day.. cause the thing that happens to the thing and the thing that help the thing to do that thing. oh my god. and then the other thing does that thing and then that thing appears. its so good. then yeah. spoiler free

Nev

omg yes and then the thing just things up to this new thing and those other things that are happening aaaaah, so many things xD feel you ^^

Brent Justice

I like how it shows the Tauri, Tokra and Jaffa next to each other, all working together (well sorta) but still a cool thing to see, we've come so far from when Earth first stepped through the gate.

Stef Furness

@Andreas what are you even talking about? He never posted a schedule for this week, and last week he double dropped everything to make up for being on vacation the week prior. He has been quite consistent w Stargate recently.

aWkie

oh yeah and when the thing things up it goes up and does the the tingymagiggy and goes all thingy. its crazy

aWkie

thats okay but usually he posts early in the day atleast for me, so i can see why he noticed it. Noone here is mad about it tho, no need to get hostile.

William Sevier

I remember this one vividly from my childhood. Watching on TV. Finally seeing all three groups together. Invisible assassin. 12 year old me was very excited to watch. Still love it.

I love the Predator segment in the soundtrack for this episode...

How dare you even suggest Bra'tac is the murderer?? I agree the tactics to prevent the Ashrak from escaping weren't the most effective. I'm surprised they didn't have an iris on the gate. I think they've used that planet as the alpha site for several years at this point so they've had plenty of time to dig in. An iris would be a good idea even if they're certain the Goa'uld don't know about that planet. It would help ensure no unwanted [visible] passengers followed people in and prevent accidental dialers from entering. In this case they would've been able to lock the iris in a closed state and move the DHD to a secure location to make sure the Ashrak couldn't escape. I loved Jack's "Teal'c, stop" when Teal'c was strangling Malek
