Argh I don't have time to watch right now so just had to skip to your thoughts at the end! It's super interesting to rewatch the show once you know the source of Elliot's trauma. The scenes between young Elliot and his dad suddenly take on a whole new meaning, and the subtext is all there. What sets Mr Robot apart from so many shows now is that reveals from later seasons are so clearly woven into the smallest parts of the very first season. It knew what it was doing all along, whereas a lot of shows don't seem to look beyond one season at a time (which I know is in case of cancellation, but it's not half as satisfying). With every rewatch I notice a new little nod to future information.

For a show with incredibly high production values, incredibly high standards of acting and writing this episode stands out. Which is really saying something. Shout out to Elliot Villar too - we know Rami Malek is a gamer, the man won an Oscar but Elliot Villar was equal to it and Christian Slater in this episode which is really saying something. The idea of putting it together like a stage play is inspired too - really makes it feel incredibly claustrophobic. Strap in for the rest of the season..

Such a powerful episode Failwhale34. I appreciate your reaction. You're right. Looking back on the series, the tell-tell signs were there: Elliot not wanting men to touch him, or the moment at the movie theater when young Elliot (as the Mr. Robot alter) told his dad that he was sick and didn't want to admit it, or the fact that his dad told Elliot about his cancer diagnosis before telling his wife and wanting Elliot to keep it as their little secret. Mr. and Mrs. Alderson were shitty ass parents. Darlene was verbally abused and severely neglected and Elliot was verbally abused and sexually molested. Fucked up and heartbreaking.

Wow... just wow! What a masterpiece! Great reactions and thoughts. Perfectly crafted together episode, with it all set in the same building, in the 5 acts. It really made it feel like something special. If you are into that style, there is a show called Inside Number 9 which is an anthology series where every episode is set in a different place with the number '9', so take place in one room or building. Back to Mr Robot, I was reading recently about how many little clues and details were left to hint at Elliot's traumatic past. I was reading on Reddit that when Whiterose interviewed Angela there was a book called 'Lolita', which features a character who was sexually abused as a kid, and what was her name? Dolorus Haze, which if you don't remember, is the psydonomyn Darlene picks up to sneak into the bank 2 episodes ago. There are probably loads more hints like that, and it just goes to show how much thoughts goes into this show, and how ingenious it is. Both Elliot's and Vera's performances were some of the best acting I've ever seen. I could go on and on about this episode. A truly chilling episode...

What a powerful and heartbreaking episode. So much more makes sense now. The recurring theme of him exposing child molesters, his aversion to physical contact, his memory lapses... It's like he created Mr. Robot to be the dad he wanted, rather than the one he had. I think that's why Mr Robot said he can't protect him anymore. Mr Robot isn't Elliot's father, quite the opposite, but even still now that he knows what his father did, he'll never see Mr Robot the same or ever trust him again. And Elliot Villar absolutely killed it this episode. Vera had that knife in the back coming, I mean who wouldn't take that opportunity in Krista's place. Still, gonna miss his character because as much of a fucking psycho as he was, he was riveting to watch all the same. For better or worse, he made Elliot face his past. Also the whole thing with the title cards and fade outs for each act, as well as the lights shutting off one by one really made this feel like a stage play. Very interesting directing choice. Last observation, Elliot let Krista kill Vera. I mean, he's looking right up past the left side of Vera's head just before he gets stabbed. He saw her coming. Again, the guy had it coming, but it's interesting that Elliot can so casually let this guy who was just consoling him and sharing his own childhood trauma be killed like that.
