Threshold patrons: would you like to go to space?

As of session 16 -- which will be released in the next few days -- we're at a space where we could pause the campaign. I'm thinking of taking a break in the story until January 2023, at which point we'd pick up with Threshold Season Two: jumping forward a few months, dealing with the consequences of our actions and adding some new characters to the story, both players and NPCs. This would be a good point for new patrons to pick up the story, and it would be a chance to directly inject some of the mechanics from Frontiers of Eberron

But if this happens, what would we do until then? Well, I just wrote an article about what I'd do in a campaign combining Eberron and Spelljammer... and I'd love to run that campaign, or at least a short arc of it. If we run with this idea, I'll work with all of you to develop our cast of characters and our ship through a series of polls, and our next Threshold session will be Session One of The Threshold of Space.

So, I'm posting a poll with two important questions.

First, What will we play? Do we stick with Threshold on the Frontier, or do we take a break to venture into Siberspace?

Second—IF the answer to the first question is "Siberspace!", what organization will our characters belong to? As described in this article, I want to run a cold war campaign that deals with competing forces racing to the moons. Here's a quick overview...

  • The Dragonhawk Initiative is Aundair's effort, driven by the romance of exploration and its alliance with the Fey. The Dragonhawks are here for adventure and are, in my opinion, the most optimistic of these options. Plus, chwinga engineers.
  • The King's Argosy is the Brelish effort, determined to find profit in the stars. The Argosy is practical and pragmatic, and if they find a xenomorph, you know they'll try to take it home and sell it to House Vadalis. They rely on elemental binding and constructs.
  • The Blade of Siberys is the Karrnathi program, and they are here for victory or death... or in this case, victory and death, as their ship is driven by necromancy and has undead marines. The Blade is a disciplined military operation, and will be the most serious and grim option.
  • The Aurum is the wild card. The space race will still be going on if you make this choice, but you will be a group of independents whose Aurum patron has come up with a ship; you'll be trying to work around the three major powers while they're reshaping the modern world.

Part of the idea of the campaign is time will pass between each session, and that (through polls) you'll be making decisions as to how your chosen organization proceeds; it's the story of a group of adventurers, but also of the evolution of spelljamming in Eberron and its impact on the world. So keep that in mind when making your choice!

Again, if the answer is to stick with Threshold the second question is irrelevant. But if you'd like to explore a whole new world—or three or four of them—we'll give it a try. If we do take a break, we WILL be going back to Threshold at the start of the new year; that story isn't over.

Thanks for your support!

Blade of Siberys isn’t getting much love, but after half a year in the Feywild (just finished a Witchlight campaign) I could really see playing an undead space pirate!

Dragonhawk will have some fey vibes on the SHIP, but the MISSIONS won't be in Thelanis.
