We have some conclusive answers about our Stonespeaker. They're an old gnome from Zilargo, an Order of Scribes wizard who has a long-standing feud with a rival in House Sivis, and they're working on their novel. However, there's a lot of different ways this character could go, so we're going to have a 24-hour runoff poll with a few more details.

I want to know your opinions on a few things. Most critically...

  • What's their demeanor? They're old, but are they cranky? Did they expect to do more with their life, or are they happy with how it's gone so far?
  • I want to get a few more details about their Rival
  • What's the story of their wizardry? Has it been a casual hobby for decades? Is it something they're celebrated for? Or is it a new development, something they discovered when their novel started talking to them?
  • What's their family situation? They're old... Do they have children and grandchildren? Do they have children in Threshold itself? Or are they a black sheep who's always been a disappointment to their family?

As I said, this is going to be a 24 hour. Thanks for following up!

I want to clarify the Wizardry option, based on discussions on the Discord server. It's not that the Awakened Spellbook is TEACHING the Stonespeaker magic (like a warlock), but rather that their spellcasting is inspired by their collaboration with the spellbook/novel. A side effect of this is that I will provide a base set of spells and cantrips, but that whoever plays the Stonespeaker can fill in the rest of their spell list for the adventure -- but they have to explain how the chosen spells are tied to the theme of their current chapter of the novel. ("Well, this is a very romantic chapter, hence Charm Person and Suggestion...") Of course, this depends on if the Awakened Novel option is chosen.

'Awakened Spellbook" is a class feature of the Order of Scribes wizard. If one of the other two options is chosen, the character will still have an Awakened Spellbook, it just won't be tied directly to the content fo the novel (though it's probably their editor).

I'd have been interested in the idea that their comparitively meagre wizardry talent is the result of bitter hard work which is only just bearingfruit in their older years. They could have been something huge but it just never worked out.

That's largely how I see "Hobby" wizardry -- they have the talent and COULD have done more with it, they just never really applied themselves until now.
