Despite a strong showing by the Chronicler, the masses has spoken and our Knowledge characters are the Scholar and the Stonespeaker. We've got a lot of characters left to explore, so let's get right to it! Here's what we know about the Stonespeaker so far.

The Stonespeaker is a dragonmarked gnome from House Sivis. They were sent to maintain a message station for the house, but something's interfering with the stones. The Stonespeaker is an arcane troubleshooter and sure they can get to the bottom of this problem; and until then, they're an expert in language and communication, and also the town notary.

The first question is whether the Stonespeaker is more concerned with the written word or the spoken word. As an Eloquence bard, their specialty is communication; they will be one of the most persuasive characters in our roster. As a Scribe wizard they will never be far from their precious spellbook, and will be eager to seek out arcane knowledge.

The Stonespeaker is a dragonmarked representative of House Sivis, and they have the House Agent background. But how did they come to be tied to House Sivis? Were they born into it, part of a Zil family who's been part of the house for generations? Or are they a Brelish foundling, a gnome who developed the Mark of Scribing and was inducted into the house but who still feels some loyalty to the land of their birth? Likewise are they young and eager, thrilled to have this exciting posting? Or are they an older gnome who expected to be further up in the house by now and who's disappointed with this posting? To be clear, either way I expect the Stonespeaker to take their JOB seriously and to love words; the question is whether they have they can reasonably aspire to move higher in the house or if they're comfortable with the role they're in.

This character's facts are tied to their connection to others. Do they have a frenemy in House Sivis they're always feuding with? Do they owe the Trust a favor? Or did they accidentally release a fiend when they were first learning magic... And if so, could this early mistake come back to haunt them? They also have a choice of quirks, reflecting their personal hobbies and interests.

Thanks for your support!

I want to quickly clarify AGE. A young Stonespeaker will still be considerably older that the Flame. In human terms, they'd be around 25; the point is that this is their first major posting within the house and that it's both exciting and an opportunity to prove themselves. By contrast, the old Stonespeaker has been serving as a stonespeaker for decades. They LIKE the work and they're damn good at it, but they don't have any particular expectations of every rising in the house. They don't have to have a "I'm too old for this" demeanor; it's just that, in fact, they actually ARE kind of too old for this sh!t.

I like the idea of a crotchety and kind of catty older stonespeaker who's had a bad run getting involved in politics and backing the wrong horse.

Although I do love the novel idea. Perhaps an epic satire that will finally "win" some of his feuds by humiliating his rivals?
