When I first decided to create a gargoyle, I will admit that I was influenced by the Gargoyles cartoon from the 90s. The Radley House needed a protector, a creature capable of fighting off man and beast alike, but a sexy one, willing to stick around. What motivates such a creature to guard an old house with a soft, squishy human inside?

The original story of the gargoyle goes back to Europe. There are a few myths around their origin, but many seem to agree that the first gargoyle was actually a beast (most likely a dragon) that was killed, its severed head mounted on a church to serve as a warning to others of its kind. I've never been to Europe, but the mythology surrounding something as simple as the stone carvings on their churches has always fascinated me.

Not much is known about the original beast that was slain. In my mind, I imagine them as a tribal culture that most likely killed humans for fun. Think of them like little kids that step on bugs because they are easy to squish. Much like some kids end up falling in love with the bugs, I imagine just one of these strange creatures falling in love (maybe a little too much :P) with humankind.

Anyway, here is Abella's concept art. Strong, sexy, and ready to protect those she loves. I hope you like it.
