Don't know anything about this show, but I'm all in cause I'll follow you two anywhere

Kara

Great reaction! Excited to watch through this show with you both

Lol love Lola being all giddy about the storm and Milena having none of it This is gonna be a really fun one for discussions! Lots of great exploration into religion and human suffering, particularly catholic guilt and responsibility. Already so many great details in this episode, great as a rewatchable show! I swear Mike Flannagan can do no wrong, if I see he’s the writer and director for something I’m all over it! His wife plays the pregnant woman and she’s in most of his movies and shows. She’s absolutely amazing in “Gerald’s Game” and in that movie (which came out several years before this show) a novel called “Midnight Mass” is shown as an Easter egg. This show was an old script of his that he didn’t think he would be able to adapt https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E8X1rrfWQAIA2ob?format=jpg&name=large

nooo, just finished it and i really want to hear your thoughts. well, i waited for a year and a half, half a day/a day should be nothing. anyway, not sure if you checked the ctors after watching it so this may be pointless but let me walk you through the actors you know. obviously kate siegel, mike's muse and wife who you saw both in hill house and bly manor as theo/viola. loved milena's face when she saw her. the doctor adn joe (the drunk guy) are the dudleys from hill house, remember them? you spent the whole show suspecting them only to cry like babies with their story at the end lol they were not in bly manor the father, henry thomas, really famous for playing elliot in E.T. was young hugh crain (the dad) in hill house and herny (the uncle) in bly manor. the sheriff, as you remember was owen in bly manor. bev, or as you call her, perfect penny, apart from knowing her from grey's she was also in hill house. she was leigh, steven's wife. the mayor, wade, was not in hill house or bly manor but you know him from battlestar galactica most likely. there's anothe face you've seen before but i don't wanna spoil anything so maybe i'll mention it when the time is right. and if i'm not mistaken that's all, though i may be forgetting someone, who knows, mike love's bringing back actors and i love it too. i'm actually rewatching the midnight club, mike's last show, which i don't recomend because this one turned out a bit bad in quality. but the thing is that i'm seeing many faces from midnight mass in it too. well, that's all. i really am super exited for your discussions of this show. at first i thought nothing could top hill house for me but now i think i love hill house and midnight mass equally, though nothing can't hold a candle for my love for the crain siblings, specially nellie, theo and luke.

It's also in his movie "Hush", also starring his wife, Kate Siegel. In the movie she plays an author who wrote a novel called "Midnight Mass". https://images.popbuzz.com/images/263110?crop=16_9&width=660&relax=1&signature=1FaWeL6ebLB8wzCsDCztYp2FH8Q=

the biggest easter egg really is in the movie hush, where kate's character is actually the person writting a novel called midnight mass and bev's actress, which is also in the movie mentions erin and riley by name.

space1999

Oh i totally forgot this! That’s amazing! Props to them for having a deaf main character who wasn’t displayed as lesser or inadequate in anyway

sand_fl

btw, i love cats too, they're one of my favourite things in the world. lexa, my baby, is the most precious thing in the world, i'm sure you've seen her on my twitter some time. that scene is awful to watch, even the sounds of the cats fighting was painful to hear. many people suffer when dogs are in pain but idk why they're more indiferent when it happens to cats.

Wanda Did Nothing Wrong

Can’t believe you didn’t recognise Samuel T. Anders. Guess the moustache really can work as a disguise lol

HenryM

She has a point about the storm tho, in "regular" shows it gives an excuse for some character development in a more intimate setting. In a horror show... well that serves a entirely different purpose lmao

space1999

Agree so hard! Regardless of genre its likely gonna be significant and show/bring about some kind of change in the characters or world Really excited for their discussions, they’ll have fun picking this one apart and I expect tears at some point

Not my cup of tea. Was hoping for Firefly. Oh well, I hope the people that wanted this enjoy it.

I’m so happy this won, especially since Black Sails didn’t and that was the other show I’d been hoping for. I have a very distant relationship with religion - neither of my parents were religious at all, and I didn’t even step foot in a church until I went to a very old one on a field trip when I was a teen. Despite that I found the way the show discusses the subject to be really interesting, and that’s just one facet of it. As with the other Mike Flannigan shows, be ready to be horrified and to cry lol.

cosmotron

Oh, and that opening scene with Riley is based on Mike Flannigan’s own worst fears of what could happen when he was an alcoholic. It wasn’t the fear of his own death that really got to him, but the idea that his alcoholism could cause the death of someone else. He’s been sober for years now, but it’s unsurprising that many of his works deal with some kind of addiction.

After this, yall gotta watch The Bear. I can't help but feel like the other 3 choices have a mediocrity to them that The Bear surpasses and reaches the level of prestige of Better Call Saul or similar great shows.

riv

don't look up the cast! that can be a spoiler!

Kara

The Bear is stunning television, same quality level as Severance and Andor (just different genre / tone). 3 of my fav debut seasons last year. We're eating good for real

Em McG

Oh!

Such a well shot show, but that very obvious old person make-up on the senile lady really took me out of it for a bit. Curious to check out more, though!
