When Francesca asked if they were registered she means a gift registry. When people get married they usually register at a store so that people can buy them wedding gifts. The couple goes to the store and picks out things they want and then the store puts it on the wedding registry so people can buy them the gifts they picked.

The impression I got from the cold open was that Kim stole the jewelry because she wanted her mother to pay attention to her and act like a good mother. That’s why she wanted to hold her hand on the way back to the car. When her mother not only showed approval for Kim’s thievery but rewarded her with the stolen goods, I think it broke Kim inside because it showed her that she could never gain her mother’s love by being a good person. (The earrings are also the same ones Kim has worn all series) This explains a lot about Kim's character. The first night she and Jimmy did a con together was when she truly fell in love with him because I think it gave her a similar feeling of, "doing this immoral thing got me the attention and admiration of this person that is important to me" and she's been chasing that feeling ever since. The ending of this episode is truly Kim’s point of no return. She can have what she wants by legitimate means, but she would also be working under powerful people. I see a lot of similarities between Kim and Walter. Walter could have accepted Gretchen and Elliot’s money but he wanted to earn it himself and feel like it was “his.” Kim could have accepted Cliff’s offer and helped build a Justice Reform program with the other lawyers, but with the Sandpiper money, she can go her own way and have full control. She “earned it” herself. I think Kim resents the time her career was in the hands of people like Howard, Chuck, Rich, and Kevin. People who were more or less born into their positions and didn’t have to pull themselves out of the gutter to get where they are. In fact, I think Kim views those kinds of people similarly to how Chuck viewed Jimmy. They didn’t have to go through the same hardships and struggles that she did to become successful, and she resents them for it. They had it, “easy” in her eyes. The final shot of Kim literally taking a u-turn down a Bad Choice Road is masterfully done.

god the scene of jimmy and kim kissing immediately cutting to the wood being chopped in half… as if the episode didnt have enough dread already the writers had to hammer that home

^ This is the one. Just what we've watched all series. I am going to miss her character, dearly

Rewatching this episode a few times its clear that Kim stole, but was actually happy that her mom was being responsible and a good mother up until she started laughing about it and stole the dagger earrings for her, that she still wears as an adult. Which says a lot. And the way her mom was joking about it sounded so much like Saul when he jokes about stuff. Also through this whole series I feel like anytime we see Kim she has a pony tail, or her hair is just down and normal. But when her and Jimmy are looking at their planning board for "D Day" and when they go to their romantic picnic her hair is curled and looks very very similar to her mom's hair in the opening teaser. Just an updated version of it. Oh god 😂😭

A question for some of y'all. Is it me or does it seem a bit out of character for Jimmy to be that harsh towards Francesca? I understand that they're trying to establish the tense relationship between the two by the time we get to Breaking Bad, but even by Jimmy's standards being that blunt to her with her apprehension with making the call and wanting her to clean up the guy's piss, he was more of a bully with her than usual. Poor Francesca, she deserves better 🙁

well he's paying her a lot, if she really didn't want to do it she could just quit. Also, Jimmy wouldn't be rude to her....but Saul would.

Dante

I don't necessarily think it's out of character, especially for Saul which Jimmy has practically already turned into during business hours. However, I have been wondering WHY Francesca stays with him for so long. I mean, it's only 2004 and we don't meet Saul until 2008. Is he really paying her so much that she's willing to put up with all the crazy shit that comes with being Saul Goodman's assistant for YEARS? It definitely makes sense why her personality changes so much, but I honestly find it kind of hard to believe someone like her wouldn't leave Saul after all the BS. I wonder if she gets more involved in Saul's business than we thought which kind of forces her to stay with him. And I'm sure she gets handsome raises lol

The bottle Jimmy was picking up looked familiar. Didn't Gus gift a bottle of Zafiro to Don Eladio as well?

Dante

We have seen Zafiro Anejo a lot. Yes, it's the alcohol Gus used to poison the Cartel, but it's also the alcohol that Jimmy and Kim drank when they scammed the Stock Broker guy in the season 2 premiere. They finished the whole bottle so they got to keep the stopper which Kim brought to her office at Schweikart and Cokely and took it with her when she quit. That same stopper also appeared in the cold open of episode 1 of this season. Jimmy also bought a bottle of it to drink with Kim in season 3 episode 9 after he thought the Sandpiper case was going to settle, but Kim was rushing to her Gatwood meeting so he did a shot with Francesca instead. Kim and Jimmy finished that bottle after Chuck's death in the season 4 premiere, so the bottle in this episode is the 4th one we've seen across both shows. Very fitting that Jimmy left it behind and didn't actually buy it. Foreshadowing.
