While there is certainly a perceived change in quality from S3 to S4, it has nothing to do with the switch to Amazon. The show has always been (and still remains) the property of Alcon Entertainment. SyFy and Amazon purchased the streaming rights respectively. The producers have said the production budget remained essentially the same, but that with each year, they “learned what they were doing” and came up with a better product. To clarify, Drummer and Ashford are NOT shooting Belter ships. They’re policing the area of the Ring and Ring Space to keep pirates (who they will shoot) away from settler ships that are piling up at the blockade. Also, they have not gone through any of the rings other than the Sol ring. Clarissa worked aboard the Roci with Amos while they were returning to the Inner planets from the ring (end of S3.E13). While not spelled out in the show, that trip takes several months.

Yay been looking forward to this! Landing on an extra solar planet is true SciFi so yes, I do love this season and story line. We did have to wait a long time for Season 4 as the show was saved in May 2018, the sets were saved and the show went back into production that fall. We didn't get Season 4 until December 2019 so it was a year and a half of waiting which was not an easy feat! I think that was when I really started getting into reactions to the show because it was hard to wait so long. The whole season dropped at once in Dec 2019 which was kind of a mistake so Season 5 came out in Dec 2020 (during the dark times of the pandemic!) and the first three episodes were dropped all at once and then the rest of the episodes came out weekly after that. My understanding of the nickname Peaches was due to her cover name, Melba, ie Peach Melba? Never heard another explanation that made sense to me.
