The plot takes on the consistency of iron. I feel like this one does a good job highlighting how necessary lighter characters like Misa and Matsuda are to balance out all the grim seriousness, despite a claim I once heard that Misa is superfluous to the story. It's a shame we never have a point where the current Light is able to interact with Kira!Light, sort of like when a character is scared by their future self.
