This is a direct prequel to Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works which is an amazing series and has a great dub and explains a lot of your questions

Ionut Popescu

Well, this leads to fate stay night, which is pretty good too!

To each their own, I suppose. Personally, this is my favourite anime ever, next to HxH and Steins;Gate. In complete contrast to you, I find that I can remember nearly every moment of this series, but can't recall most of Promised Neverland! :P I think I get enraptured by its remarkably subtle portrayal of the battle royale. The deceptions, the twists, the betrayals, the cold and calculating tactics that one would expect in such a scenario, the ideological clash of a whole host of characters that I find to be fully compelling and authentic in their own right. For me, it just kept giving me exactly what I wanted the whole way through, especially considering that Kiritsugu embodies everything I've ever wanted in a main character. Regardless, good reaction and I respect your thoughts on it all! That's the point of reactions - to get other peoples' perspectives since none of us experience things the same way!

So my take on this ending (and the grail) is that the grail chose everyone who remained. When the vessel appears, Kiritsugu, Kirei, and Kariya are all still alive. Kiritsugu rejects his wish but gets it anyways. He wished to save people even if he had to kill to get there. Grail appears and destroys tons of people, and he saves one precious life among the rubble. Saber learns that her idealism was not wasted, that her followers never found her to be lacking. Kirei Kotomine lives to witness the failure of Kiristugu. Gilgamesh wanted to live on and he does. Kariya sees an illusion of the happy family he wished he had, and Tohsaka's wife isn't dead. Berserker/Lancelot finally was punished for his actions, as he was driven mad striving for the ideal that Saber set as king. He felt he had to atone, and she saves him by killing him.

Basically to me, the device acted truly as a wish granting device, and the takeaway is that true wishes and desires of people are twisted

So, for the grail. All Saber did was destroy it's physical manifestation. It's essentially still existed. Since it's not completely clear, the grail is corrupted and will ultimately be incapable of anything but destruction. Yes, the boy at the end is the main character for the original fate series Fate/stay Night (and several spin-off series), which is divided into 3 separate alternative timelines. One of which is Unlimited Blade Works. Which I suspect you would like more than Zero given your take at the end.

Yo adonis not sure if you noticed but the grail actually worked. It granted both of their wishes. Kerie wanted distruction and purpose which he was given by gilgamesh revival and the destruction of the city. Kiritsigu got his wish by finding true happiness and understanding with how precious saving just one life is.

The thing with Fate/Zero is, it can be hard to understand. Especially if you only watched it once. If you miss out core informations, the series can be unsatisfying overall or will not live up to the expectations. But if you understand everything and get the depth of the characters, this Anime is almost with no equal in story-telling. Also having knowledge about the historical figure before watching the Anime makes it much better. It's not needed but it adds an extra layer of depth. The ending is also hard to fully understand, but it's actually very fitting to the Anime overall. I think you will enjoy Fate/Unlimited blade works more, because it's very straightforward and with many great fights. Still i ( and many other ) believe Fate/Zero is a much superior Anime, because it has a amazing characters, a engaging plot, incredible depth and awesome story telling overall. The only downside ( if you can call it that ), is that you need to pay attention a lot and you need to be ready for a very mature Anime, with many dark twists.
