These are just one of those moments that scream out ONE PIECE. Just one of many too, one piece 🐐

i dont know why it felt less dramatic in the anime than in the manga ,at least for me

Translation note: In Japanese the verb (and verb modification) of a sentence generally comes at the end. This it what Nami’s declaration at the end works on. Ulti wants her to say “Luffy wont become pirate king”, which in Japanese word order would be “Luffy the pirate king becomes not”. But Nami says (in JP word order) “Luffy the pirate king becomes definitely”. In Japanese this is the last word of the sentence so it works as a dramatic reveal, but in proper English word order that reveal would be lost. So the translators decided to make her “change her mind” mid sentence to make it work.

Damn ulti is making the rounds, she feels stronger than everyone else on kaidos crew lol. Fought luffy, tanked a hit from yamato, beat nami, beat usopp. She kinda crazy lol

This is the moment where I stop reading the manga, took a break from it and went anime only. Regrettably I wasn't sober when I read this chapter so I couldn't remember all the details, but that moment with Nami for sure made me want to stop reading and patiently wait for the chapters to pile up, and binge.

In the manga she didn't hesitate this much but Nami's hesitation makes this even better because a cowardly character making a 180 degree personality flip is too unrealistic. The hesitation showed her internal struggle and choosing Luffy's dream over her own life. This was also the first time we see Nami taking on serious bloody damage in battle. This is her at her most vulnerable similar to Arlong Park, then she didn't believe in Luffy, now she does. Beautiful.
