Content

Hello everyone. I am sure a lot of you are aware of the current situation going on with Anime Reaction channels and Patreon Uncut Reactions

I am not going to go into much detail about the overall situation, in short a Youtuber got into a controversy because she posted uncut anime reactions on her Patreon. Her Patreon was recently deleted because of this and how she handled the situation.

I don't know the fine details of exactly how her videos were formatted, but what is coming to my attention and other reactors attention as well is to change the structure of Patreon Reactions. I do want to give Patreon extra perks, without Patreon I would not be able to continue to post the content and support my channel with youtube revenue alone.

I appreciate the support you guys have given me, this situation is very unfortunate because Fair Use is such a Grey Area topic. While other companies may be fine with reactions, others may not. I believe my videos were fair and did not negatively impact the marketplace for anime. I've seen more positive feedback and conversations created from my reactions. Another thing is the claim that "People only watch anime reactions to watch the anime" which from the feedback I have received most people already have seen the animes I am watching.

Again this is a very tricky subject matter because of how vague the definition of "Fair Use" is and to who it may comply too and whom it may not.

I love that you guys can experience my reactions to your favorite shows. And sadly I will most likely have to change the formatting of my Patreon so I don't risk losing my Patreon all together.

I do value and would like your feedback. An Idea I had would be to do early access to youtube edited reactions.

For the FULL Reactions I think the best option to do would be to use a timer, adding in selective clips instead of showing the full uncut anime so that you guys can easily sync up.

I know timer reactions aren't ideal but it is the only option that would completely comply with any sort of Fair Use argument.

But also having Patreon Early Access to edited reactions (Which I feel would still fall under fair use)

(I think most reactors I have spoken to are making the change to timer reactions/edited for patreon)

Or if there are other benefits that you guys want to suggest for being a Patreon member.

Starting June Discord will also be opened to every Patreon tier

You will get the roles assigned to your Patreon tier that will give you access to specific channels.

Also there will still be Patreon Exclusive Reactions, but they will have an edited option along with a timer reaction for those who want the full reaction.

The Super Mecha Squad and above tiers will get

Early Access to Edited Reactions That will eventually go up on Youtube.

Same for other shows such as Grand Blue, Prison School

Full Timer Reactions (with some added clips)

KING OF THE PIRATES and Above tiers will also continue to get Youtube Shoutouts during videos.

As for Youtube, companies may target anime reactions on Youtube more harshly, we don't really know the outcome this could have on the community. But I would rather take action now before action takes me.

I work hard to put up my content, I feel like I have been getting sick a lot lately from all of the stress this has caused.

I know this situation is not ideal, and may result in a lot of you leaving Patreon, I understand, which is why I wanted to give this update before the next month.

I need to take a few days to figure out the structure, receive feedback, etc.

Some have suggested using the timer method like Kimchi and Tofu and I will look more into how they do it.

I will figure out more details after hearing your feedback and suggestions <3

Oui Oui

Well that’s unfortunate

Anonymous

So no more reactions on Patreon?

Anonymous

Is it Suzy Lu that you are referring to ?

Mario Caleb Chaparro Hernández

Animaechan is very scared too, has it gotten that bad? Man we were just having a nice new rookie era for one piece reactors that were being born (eddie goes hollywood, supremepast, sensei bok, dragon bros) and now this could ruin it all!

Beto_Fl

Do what its best for the Channel, I support you 👍🏻

Anonymous

I blame Suzy Lu's dumbass. sigh

Anonymous

okay am i the only one who dosnt know what a timer reaction is? is that like u react with no video for certain portions of the anime so we can just pull up the anime in another tab or device to watch along?

yooin

Ahh I personally hate timer reactions. Its just troublesome to download the anime episode for each show you watch so that i can minimize it and play it in the corner. (Its hard to minimize the crunhyroll player). This youtuber only got into so much heat because youtubers made multiple videos on her and i still see alot of other popular patreon pages (Rttv, Yaboyroshi, Etc) still do full length. But at the end of the day i'll still be a supporter. This situation just sucks.

Anonymous

i can just pull up the anime on my phone and sit it on my laptop if thats the case im still here to support

Assimilater

She is the major one stirring up trouble, yes. But all reaction channels are kind of gray area tbh

Jermaine Long

You can try doing thing on Google drive and send people access links the only problem is videos can only be watch and download so many times but you can get around the download limit by copy the video then downloading the copy just a idea throwing it out there

Anonymous

Well this is sad, I like to see the anime but also the reaction at the same time having a timer and not the anime itself feels kind of empty to me, but lets pray this situation doesnt last long!

Anonymous

Unfortunate situation but I’m not going anywhere! 😄

Anonymous

Will have to see the next One Piece reactions(as well as other anime that I have seen) to make my final decision. For now, I’ll support you and other anime reactors.

yooin

she plays a timer and you have to pull up your own version of the episode and sync it up with the timer.

Anonymous

is there any other platform you can use ?

yooin

SMF: I think if you do end up doing timer reactions, you should block the whole episode except the subtitles, it helps sync it way easier than having snippets. So we can see when exactly the subtitles chance and can sync it fully

Wilber

It's a permanent change... You think companies will let everyone be now that they know their shows/movies are given out on patreons? X3

Anonymous

She got in trouble because she started wrongly copy-striking YouTubers who used clips of her videos for a fun little joke; or channels that talked about her and her boyfriend. This wouldn't have happened if she learned to take a joke and move on, her attitude doesn't help.

Assimilater

She has lost gmail accounts because of posting videos to google drive. This is not an option

Anonymous

You can just show the lower most part of the screen for patreons so people can sync up with the subs. That way you can post uncut reactions without showing 90% of the screen. This way you will also be able to turn the sound off since viewers will be running the show in the background

Anonymous

Dumbass suzy just had to go and ruin it for everyone didn't she?

Anonymous

I would recommend making all of your Vimeo/Patreon reactions transparent because a timer is definitely not ideal and rather terrible to be completely honest.

aznzeric

Suzy lu strikes again🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Anonymous

To my understanding, she’s not completely to blame, but rather TV Tokyo and they’re strict rules as well as some other complications with Patreon.

Florin

Timer reactions are fine but I think it's important you mention the website you're using to watch (like Crunchyroll) so there are no differences in subtitles or show the few 15-30 seconds right in the beginning to make sure the sync is good.

smf_frieza

Yeah it sucks, because I love doing full reactions that is why at least I will offer early access to edited reactions on Patreon so that people that absolutely hate timers will have the option.

Anonymous

Sad, but I will still support you!

Anonymous

Hey there just wanted to say thanks! I just recently started my own reactions! Its weird because I'm a little different as I make music but I wanted to show fans and other musicians a fun way of connecting with people via anime reactions since I love anime. It's sad to see this but that means I'll have to make changes as well. Thanks for the heads up. Glad you provided this info!

yooin

i think she should show the bottom subtitles only, Kimchi and Tofu do this for all their timer reactions and it helps sync up.

Ryan H

I prefer the 10min cut-down reaction to full length but only if the audio and video are clear

Florin

Also, for those who are not informed about the source of the problem: it's a youtuber named Suzy Lu. You can search on Youtube "Suzy Lu controversy", there are many videos done about how this whole situation got to this. She uploaded full, barely edited anime and people criticized her. She flagged the videos that criticized her (never do that). Now she basically lies constantly and acts like a spoiled child, and all she had to do was shut up and lay low. People got so annoyed by her shitty behaviour they contacted Funimation, TV Tokyo and so on and told them about how she violates the copyright law. Said companies are investigating and already taking action. This will affect the entire reaction community, sadly, especially if they take her to court because Youtube also fucked up.

Anonymous

If you’re gonna do a timer, then it has to at least include the audio but I would still recommend making them just very transparent like how you do for YouTube so that we can keep your full reactions.

smf_frieza

Feedback is very welcome. I was thinking of other ways to help make Timer reactions work. so commenting down below with feedback will be very helpful.

SonicKing2004

I wish you didn't have to get rid of the full reactions, but in lieu of that I would rather have the timer reactions as long as we can get a link (or directions) to where we can access the episodes too and watch them along with you.

Cat_Sidhe

I strongly believe timer reactions are the best option. ALSO, for people who don't already know this (I didn't for a long time) you can very easily sync up videos if you use Chrome as a browser. If you have two windows open at once you can go to the corner and hold down the maximize (green) button and you should be able to have a "split screen" now. No need to actually download the video and stick it in the corner.

Anonymous

So until the time comes there’s still uncut anime reactions?

Anonymous

What about uploading the reactions via Bitchute? A lot of reactors use it

Anonymous

So I just randomly came across this on YouTube, and checks out as reliable. Although people will still have their opinions on her. Personally I’ve only watched her from time to time so I don’t know the full story. “Suzy Lu only posts full anime reactions to primarily Naruto Shippuden, which used to be on YouTube for the longest but now it turned over to her patron until the beginning of this month and since TV Tokyo is extremely strict with their “fair use” terms, (as well as some of her personal issues with YouTube) a lot of haters including they’re strict policies together got to the best of her which followed in her patron being then deleted. The result is she has her own website called “Suzylu.co.uk” “

Anonymous

I like your content so whatever you do I will adapt to the changes and continue to support, many, I have even seen the majority of anime that you have uploaded and what I like is their reactions. To watch the anime alone, I can go to any page like Crunchyroll.

Cat_Sidhe

I don't know if it would be too much work (it's not necessary) but another reactor, Teeaboo, has a very nice set up for his timer reactions to make it easy for viewers to sync up. I'd check his videos out. Also just please mention if you're using crunchyroll or a different site so we can make sure our video is correct.

Maxime Desmarais

I would go with a timer its way easier to be fair use and we can still have your onccut reaction just need to open the anime in another tab ourself people might not be happy but its not worth a law suit and with the other youtuber getting everyone reporting these uncut reaction

Anonymous

I've also wondered this...if these companies were forward thinking they could set up a system where reactors can have an easy way to reach out to them submit an application about permission to react to their content legally. A fee could be involved and if their videos get ad revenue it could be set up with a nice negotiable split. I wonder if companies would consider that. There's a big market for anime reactions. I would think that they would take that opportunity to get some sort of change from that. No?

Maxime Desmarais

just dont pause during the reaction because weLL be out of sync and its kinda hard to ajust it but even so it's not that big of a deal

Mr. Sweetfreak

How about the version of Married2TheReal, if you became a patron to them they will directly send you a google drive link to access all of their uncut reactions. is this gonna work in the future?

Maginpui

Sucks that Grinch girl chick's actions ended up rippling to completely unrelated content creators.

smf_frieza

Yeah, the reaction format is very popular and gets animes recognized especially in the west. I don't get why they don't try to capitalize on it

Florin

The story is pretty long, but I'll sum it up (I follow it). She posted full, barely edited reactions and people criticized her. She flagged the videos of those who criticized her and lied constantly about the situation. People got so pissed off at her they informed TV Tokyo, Funimation etc. She had some reactions taken down, like most channels, but no one really gave any fucks about it. If she laid low, people would've forgotten about it and moved on. Youtube is also in trouble because based on Suzy Lu's videos they violated the safe harbour law.

smf_frieza

That still can get them in a lot of legal trouble though. Because they are sharing uncut content. Which is the main reason suzy got in trouble with companies

Anonymous

I’m fine with synced up reactions but audio in the the reaction would be nice

smf_frieza

The problem is still sharing links on Patreon that link to content like that

andrew howell

I think we should wait and see what happens because maybe nothing major will come of it and uncut reactions can continue. We can hope and pray.

Anonymous

how about trying timer with video cropped to show only the subtitles ?

Anonymous

Can’t audio also be copyrighted like the soundtracks and whatnot during the episodes?

Brandon Sanders

How are reactions being copy righted when no one should be able to access them without pledgeing?

smf_frieza

Well then there would be conflicting audio, I think if there is a way to visually help people sync that wouldn't effect copyright that would be the best case scenerio

Accio123

Personally I dont really mind using a timer for future reactions, but I was wondering how this might affect older reactions since I have been trying to catch up on older series like Hunter Hunter and Bleach.

Joshua

What about the old one piece reactions will those have to be changed cuz I'm not finished with watching those

Blackeye

Man fuck Suzy Lu 😤😤🤬🤬

Kay M

Yeah I’ve seen other YouTubers on Patreon already switch to this method recently due to the potential risks. I think that syncing up the full reactions and the anime videos with the timer method is a good solution.

Blackeye

Either way I will always support you

Blackeye

Better if you switch to timers or don’t upload full episodes cuz there are a lot of attention on anime reaction channels

Heiron

A download link of the anime episode would be a good idea too for people who doesn't have access or just can't afford the official sites. Like that at least they can straight download the episode and sync it up.

Anonymous

I dont get why timers would be a problem for anyone. I like these even more than regual reactions because i can adjust the audio seperatly.

smf_frieza

Everything previous to this change will remain the same, this is just moving forward

Heiron

Personally can't watch it on mobile and sometimes not really easy to sync up or keep it sync if some buff happens in case you using other sites for syncing and that's can make u rethink if its worth the effort.

Haxrous

Uzumaki khan has been using it since the beginning of his career

Haxrous

I'm glad I watched your reactions of my favorite bleach arc with uncut versions :p I won't quit being a patreon though but I'll definitely miss the full experience of uncut reaction :(

GotherL

So far I only know of the Suzy Lu ordeal. Heard she is deep shit with the anime companies. It's all over youtube.

Anonymous

i'm good with timers also, better safe than having patreon close things down

romeo diaz

If things do start changing like that, guess it's bye bye Patreon😂😂😂

smf_frieza

Yeah I will miss sharing my experiences that way. But thank goodness I finished a lot of epic arcs before this messy situation happened

ThiefH

I suggest checking put subscibestar some youtubers recommend it over patreon, i hope you can sort this out somehow i dont wanna cancel my subscription atleast not until konosuba is finished

Anonymous

Got it

Anonymous

Biggest question is, at the very least are we getting the last two episodes of jojo?... it’s like jojo is cursed here :c

Frank Rosales

I would give a suggestion but I know nothing about reactions and the laws that govern fair use but whatever you come up with looks like it would be ok with your dedicated members.

Jordan Uzamaki

Oh welp this might be a bit of a problem for me since I’ve only been watching on my ipad. If anyone’s got any ideas that don’t involve my bad laptop I’d appreciate it.

Mr Evol

There's probably some reason this is a bad idea, but couldn't you just keep using Patreon to manage patron tiers and share timer videos, but then link to vimeo full reactions in the tier-specific discord channels?

Beto_Fl

I don like timer reaction but I think is the best option, because i subscribed on Patreon to watch your full reaction and dont want to put in risk your channel, so I vote for Timer... if you want to give something extra for Patreon well, i suggest you do the full uncut with timer reaction in Patreon and in YT only post the edit/cut with timer reaction.

Anonymous

All this because of some idiot couldn't handle forehead jokes

Anonymous

Back then i was subscribed to 2 patreons and they always had timer reactions, its really easy to sync up i really hope you do timer cause cut reactions only would be so lame

FroshyStory

Im not a fan of timer reactions because i personally have to open up the anime just to watch it with you i have a bad internet i cant watch then both at the same time, kinda ruin the mood of watching it, people may have no problem with it but for people who have bad internet and such, but seriously we do hope nothing serious happen, due to this tough times i only pledge just for fairytail because i really enjoy it and love watch everybit of it but internet sucks, probably add option to download a reaction? The uncut one

Markub El Jaden

I remember there was a site where you can upload a video and the watcher can insert a URL to another video and it will appear in a smaller screen next to it, basically it's the same formula but we are the one who sync the show not the uploader, so therefore it would not come back to you.

Markub El Jaden

Honestly this is such a stupid rule since you're not even uploading the reaction to Patreon, your uploading them to another site and sharing the link here, so it's those sites (MEGA and Vimeo) should be the one who call the shots.

Alex Reyes true 1 PIECE FAN

Could you pls make an exception for all the fairytail OVAs? If not, you could make a pornhub account and upload them there. All the fairytail OVAs are on there anyway lol

MorRud

Along with the timer you could have just the subtitles part of the video, it would help with syncing, and even people who can't open an extra window (phone users etc) can somewhat follow along. I am really sorry for you guys for having to deal with all of this. Seriously, why would anyone use a reaction video to pirate anime, you have a million easier ways. What is more likely and what has happened to me too, is that you watch along with the reactor something that you otherwise wouldn't watch and start liking it, and watching show. For me it was Bleach, I stared watching it because I saw you reaction to the first episode, haven't even heard about it before, anime isn't that popular in my country. If anything, these reactions are advertisement. The more youtubers react to a show, the more I feel like I should watch it. Thanks for the update on the situation, and hang in there.

Anonymous

I’m ok with this, I just wish I could multi task on iOS that way I wouldn’t have to use a computer to watch the reactions. You can multi task on android but I’m pretty certain you can’t have audio playing from two separate apps at once.

Anonymous

So I’ve done abit of research on this Suzu lu chick, and how She dealt wid it is that she made a whole website of full uncut reaction vids, could SMF do the same or could that be the same situation like now? Someone educate me if I’m wrong coz I’m very lost and did a half ass investigation on this topic lol

Anthony

Why don't you get your own website, set up payment, setup membership, and embed your Vimeo videos? We will follow you anywhere and this way you can avoid all the platform rules.

Anonymous

I'm not sure how much of the drama you have seen, but Rachael Messer has come out with 2 very insightful videos about the situation, as she is a voice actor working in the anime industry aswell. I believe she gives some suggestions in the second video about how to handle the situation, so if you have the time i recommend watching the videos and maybe look into some of the livestreams she has done on the topic.

All Might

This is why we can't have nice things :(

Anonymous

No, because making a personal website full of uncut reactions like Suzy Lu did is actually illegal and she's most likely going to get sued.

Anonymous

If she did that, her website wouldn't be protected by safe harbor laws and she'll probably be hit with lawsuits from multiple companies under the accusation of profiting off their content.

IzzO

I understand the situasion, alot of others i watch are not really panicing right now, buttbh i prob wont keep on subbin if it changes to timers wich is why i came over from YT, im gonna stick for month and see how the edits work out, but this is just a damn shame whats happening. And we have no idea of actually why her paterion got shut down, could just have been a mass flagging situasion or some other thing. And if its true that a bunch of retards spammed the companies just to hurt one person has now hurt all of us like little children and we now have an animepocalypse.

luis delgado

I think she can keep the reactions, the audio and the subs as long as she dosn't show all the image of the episode so perhaps that's a solution

Ken Ch

this is sad, i support anime reactors here in patreon because of the full reactions, i tried watching people doing timers and really hated it, its just the experience is really diff. really not just for me, well, it was fun while it lasted.

Anonymous

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work. However, Rachael Messer made a really good video on how you can make reactions that avoid issues with copyright.

Rustic Randy

Anyone who is committed to watching reactions will stay and sync up. I've been doing that for several different reactors videos for years now. It's not difficult to do and I prefer timers for full length anyway. Stay legal! I'll have to see how you implement this change. If it seems like a lot more work for you, then I may consider upping my tier. I think its worth it. For those that abandon, they aren't real fans of YOU, just the ANIME you are reacting to. Good riddance. #NoHate

B00ch

This sucks. i think companies have the right to do whatever with their content, so i'll never argue that. BUT the one problem i have is this argument that people go to anime reactors to actually watch the anime. there are other ways to do that, i doubt anyone is watching it for the first time or using to reactors to watch an anime in a little box. ugh. if anything you help give publicity to certain. not the best example since jojos is popular but I am about to watch jojos because you do.

Rustic Randy

I know I'm replying to myself, but I have to mention I was also a Patron for the reactors channel that was deleted. I find that she gained unnecessary attention from other channels bullying her for supposedly being a bully. The whole situation was/is kinda stupid in my opinion.

Elite968

Lemme guess... It's that Suzy chick. aka. Big Forehead idiot, who made this mess. This b*** has serious mental issues and she is a well known controversial person in YouTube ( now Patreon aswell ) Now she ruins our daily entertainment and makes everything harder for creators like SMF. She potentially destroyed many creators earnings with her stupid moves. She maybe even killed the entire reaction platform holy fuck. I am very sad and angry about this :(

Marek Pfeifer

Fairy tail is going to be nightmare to sync thx to openings

Jess Y

From what I understand from the situation, people didn't know her until Suzy Lu flagged many Youtube videos that criticized her for cyberbullying and false copyright strike tons of people. She has a big ego and even prices herself $1000 for a personal message LOL

Jess Y

apparently now she starts picking fights with an anime voice actor who has connections in the industry. kinda stupid

Jess Y

I watched couple of her reaction videos a year ago as well as her boyfriend's videos. She literally did and said nothing for the entire lengths of videos. She just stares at screens with her blank faces and they are very boring.

Rustic Randy

People are allowed to have an opinion on what others say about them as well as others allowed to have an opinion about an individual. Did she handle the situation poorly? Yes. But I don't see why she has triggered so much hate. Full length reactions with PIP is wrong. It sucks but it's wrong no matter the platform. I'm hoping this becomes more heavily enforced to shift the reaction platform to a more legally acceptable medium going forward.

BiggerBee

So this is basically rip to people who watch on mobile

Anonymous

I am a Japanese student and I am trying to listen to English in your reaction. I don't really understand what's going on, but I know it's bad. Anyway, I support you. (I would be happy if someone could explain in simple English for me)

Anonymous

I have seen some reactions showing the bottom part of the screen only (subtitle area) which helps me sync properly as i can somehow see very limited part of the scene and also see the dialogue. You may want to consider that, my dear.

Steve

Imon_Snow has been doing timer reactions for a long time now and it seems to work out just fine for them. Just show the first 30 seconds or so of the episode and syncing up is a non issue.

aznzeric

Another youtuber got into a big controversy and messed it up for the anime reaction community.

Simon Watson

I've been watching the situation unfold over the last few weeks, shame that one bad apple can ruin it for everyone. Timers would be the best way to go I suppose, since people can be watching the anime legally (or not, it's up to them) and syncing up with you. And then they get the full episodes. Keep up the good work.

Anonymous

I suggest to you to using an application to combine ( full reaction video with a timer + the download video) synchronized in a single video, it's take a few minutes. So, SMF, please put a timer in the down left corner with small size 😁

Anonymous

Ok but where is jojo

GoldArthur

They had given her plenty of warnings, and were mainly upset with her Youtube reactions. I don't think you're in any danger here. Especially since countless other reactors still do full reactions through Patreon.

Jessica

many big channels like the Normies & blindwave also use timer reactions and it works for them. as long as you insert a short clip, in the beginning, to help us sync there arent any issues. On a side note, some platforms have diff delays so if u watch on Crunchyroll, and i watch on Hulu for example, it can be harder to sync, so if you let us know which platform u use before u start the episode, it would allow us to sync with you better. Just something I've noticed using timer reactions before.

Muhd Solehin

This is God Usopp divine punishment for losing the love of One Piece. 😝

Unoder

I suspected this would become a slippery slope the moment I heard the cancel cultists went to the anime studios, oblivious (or indifferent) to the effects their actions could have on content creators that weren't clapping back. I hate that shit, it's analagous to cutting down a tree because of one bad apple. Well, anyway on a less serious note u might as well keep uploading fulll reactions to filler because as EVERYONE. KNOWS. No one gives a f about filler anyway!! J/K

Anonymous

I would say ether keep audio or visual full that way it is easy to keep on track too.

Jess Y

My worry is that Suzy Lu draws a lot of attention from the anime patent company to the reaction community. They might start taking down all the reaction channels. I heard many people reported the situation to companies.

Pål Tollef Sundet Ekeberg

I know it is necessary, but i am sad since I can't watch timer based on my phone where I watch 98% of my videos

Greenleaf

Only audio is bad because if you're watching along you have to perfectly sync your own copy and mute it. Another person I watch that does timers just has the subtitled part of the video visible so it's easy to sync.

Rude-boyy

you gotta do what you gotta do.... unfortunately for myself i don't wanna pay for timers and syncing it ruins the experience for me so ill wait till next month to unsubscribe and see how everything goes. thanks for the heads up ( :

Resticon

The idea that this moronic girl went after a fuckin VA, Rachel Messer, saying that she was just jumping on the bandwagon...I just can't even. How do you go after someone who can just reach out and text the animation studios and directors personally? This is going to blow up in a big way because this is what anime companies have been waiting for. Prior to this, it was often bad PR to go hardcore after a reaction channel because it would upset fans in the same way that going after people for fan art does. Bigger production companies would activate bots or quietly claim videos without making a big deal out of it but they certainly didn't invest a colossal amount of effort to doing so. Now that there is widespread awareness and public support for shutting down Suzy Lu (and other reactors by extension) and even the VAs and producers are being pulled into the matter...it is only a matter of time until they feel like they have the public support to target reaction videos as a whole. It might still bring up some bad PR from anime viewers but they'll have the high ground on the matter. It sucks that this is happening as most people watching reactions are just here because they have already watched the shows and want to see other people's reactions to shows they love. Unfortunately at this point, it will likely become pretty much unstoppable.

gruntmaster1

Sorry to hear that, the only reason I became a patreon was for the uncut full length reactions. If you go with a timer based options I hope that you keep in mind that not everyone can use the legal option (region locked) and it is then best not to skip the opening so we don't have to resync the video.

smf_frieza

I recommend warning fellow reactors, I have reached out to some but there channels could be in danger if they don't make appropriate changes.

butterscotchwaffles

Honestly between using a timer based reaction vs. not getting a reaction video at all, I'd rather watch a timer based reaction. It might take some time getting used to it but the reason I got into reactions in the first place is because it feels like watching anime with a friend. I really hope that after things die down, it MIGHT be possible to go back to uncut reactions (or use another site possibly) :')

smf_frieza

Who knows, maybe something will change, the problem is we don't know exactly how the companies will react to all of this going on. Better to change now before something bad happens than to change right when something bad happens

Sonny

Yes another Channel i can delete. Because in my Country Most of the Anime Site From other Country dont work.

Monster Zero

That’s too bad I really like your reaction I don’t like timer because I watch your videos in my work some times anyway whatever u see better just do it :)

Anonymous

Damn I was hoping this would not happen. Came here from YT because I don't enjoy short reactions with timers, you basically see only small part of the footage which ruins the whole point of reacting to something. Another problem I see is that most animes websites have been takendown, So I will have to download every single anime episode from somewhere down my computer and then synchronize it with your videos to make sense of it. I am not saying I'm giving up. I really enjoy your reactions and work you're doing, so let's see how's it gonna work

Misushi

ok so from what I understoond pateron basically became as volnurable to copystrikes as youtube now for whatever reason.Or just some rumor. Whats the point of patreon then other than receiving donations/payment? Making it transparent, cuts, timers etc. is bascially already what youtube gets. On the long run (if not even short) its basically a deathflag to pateron. Though im not really sure if its not just a lot of panic about nothing, how and why should pateron even target anything like youtube now? You are not even uploading it on pateron but on mega and vimeo, shouldnt they be the ones who have the last saying in it? Did pateron even say anything official about this matter?

smf_frieza

Well the main reason is that a Youtuber had her patreon terminated and she did what a lot of reactors are doing. Sharing Reaction links on Patreon in posts like mine. It is still confusing but an inside source is warning reaction channels that companies will begin to take action very soon.

smf_frieza

Thank you so much for trying. Trust me this isn't ideal for me and is really taking a toll on me because I love reacting and watching anime with you guys. This entire situation is making me depressed ;(

Voidaken

Damn it, Jamie. You said you weren't worrying about this to me and that you were NOT stressing. Why you gotta lie like that? I think an important step is branding YOURSELF and not the reactions. For example, you say you offer reactions, reviews, and cosplay. But if we're being honest...you never do the other two. And I mean a real review. A few words at the end after the reaction of "I like this" is still just reaction. If you market yourself more as a personality and had more than just the reactions, it makes your Patreon look more valuable and legitimate that you're offering more than "grey-area" content. Now, I think I have some ideas how to get through all of this, but that depends on if you want to deal with this preemptively or reactively. Meaning, if you want to change your reactions to try to dodge any bullets, or if you want legal representation to defend you and reaction channels in general. If you are interested in the latter, it's best to talk about that privately, however, I think.

KillerB

man, I'm legit sick of this copyright shit, like yesterday I shared a story in my instagram which had Kingu's music which was played in ep 19 of fate grand order and they bloody copyrighted my story and took it down

Anonymous

I'm going to support you anyway , it is sad because I love full reactions,I already saw almost all the anime you are reacting to, but is lovely the way you react so you can count on my support (even though I am no one ^^).Keep the hard work girl!Greetings from Spain

smf_frieza

Well it was fine until a stream I watched *yesterday* when the VA said that reaction channels need to change or they will get hit hard

ohh

I feel like reactors are just trying to cash in when they don't realize how easy money it is for them for the effort they put out. the reason the studios don't want to split any revenue with you guys would be because what you are reacting too is entirely theirs and they spent plenty of hours, time, and money to make it. how can you profit off it and then give them a 'cut'. that's like me taping nfl games and uploading on patreon full games and my reaction to it, then asking the nfl if I actually got popular if they want a small cut so I can legally step over the grey area with compensation. no way in hell they'd agree, they'd be taking me to court within a week for everything im worth probably. you're lucky all these studios are in the east with so many weird internet laws lmao. that wasn't the best example since the nfl is us based and we have super harsh copyright laws for some tv/movies but i'm sure you can see my point though. but to be fair, watching with a reactor is like watching the anime over again which I would never do without years in between watching unless I really liked the anime after the first watch for some reason which is super rare. it brings attention it probably lost and grows as a series slightly after it was probably stagnating. not just the anime studio either the entire series whether its light novels merchandise or the anime. I honestly feel like bleach, and some old animes are coming back thanks to some of the reactors and people realizing that animes like bleach actually weren't bad at all compared to Naruto with 700 episodes and one piece with 900...…...with bleach sitting at like 350 and being scrapped yeaaaars ago. i'd say just switch to timer for now and save the unedited and post them eventually if things setlle down. suzy lu is honestly an idiot so she will dig herself an even bigger hole soon and she will fall down and we can all move on lol I don't feel like theres many other popular reactors besides like maybe 4-5 that really can make a living out of this. you really shouldn't feel bad for suzy, I hope everyones seen that video where she thanks all the viewers for their money and asks for us to keep 'sending her money from ours moms basement'. welp. looks like were done sending her money. it's a shame she's too dumb to realize she and her boyfriend aren't lawyers yet still had the audacity to think she could outsmart other reactors with her own site, and now are just bringing a shit ton of negative attention to reactors in general. tldr: god dammet suzy lu. but ever since she said she was coming out with her own site, I had some bad feelings about it.

smf_frieza

Well to me how she is dealing with the situation from an outsiders perspective is that she doesn't care about the damage this will cause others. I even heard that if Anime companies get really strict about how their content is shared even channels strictly reviewing anime will get effected. People like me and many other reactors really enjoyed reacting to the shows we watched. ( I personally don't rewatch entire series with reactors but I do watch certain episodes that they get to for example Naruto moments that I want to relive.)

Anonymous

Really sad to see how this situation unfolded and blew up. I'm ok with the timer if that's the best option.

smf_frieza

Yeah I am bummed too, but I am going to spend the next couple of days trying to make this work and still be "fair use" The main issue is mobile users and timer reactions, if I can figure something out for that would be great

Kevin M

Well that sucks and I thought of making a reaction channel but now idk if I want to deal with all that.

Franz Lorenz

It would be nice if there was a service where you could choose the reactor or reactors you want for an anime and i plays he reactions in a split screen alongside with the anime that's connected to your funimation or crunchyroll account. Maybe that's the future

Anonymous

Could you not just link to the full reaction on your Discord or another social media and use Patreon to get the different Discord roles?

Robert Johnson

No no no. That's not the issue at all. The problem is that she's BARELY giving any reactions or transforming the content in any way shape or form. She's a shit content creator and she nuked her Patreon to try desperately to not get sued, and this topic was looong since covered and dealt with already. And the other problem is that she started attacking people and abusing fair use. Before she started doing that shit nobody cared, nobody said anything. So you're fine and you need to just keep your head down and not change anything. You react to anime, sure, but you give a little extra more and go in depth with after-episode thoughts and talks, and in-between episodes you give feelings and thoughts. So huge difference. If I waned to see an anime I'd just go pirate it. But I want to see YOUR reactions, with the content you're reacting to alongside it so I know what it is you're seeing. You haven't had any issues here at all in terms of that shit. I love your content, it's fine, but honestly if you're gonna start cutting the episodes out like you do on Youtube and make huge changes for no reason when your content is fine, I'm just gonna have to take my leave. I

Cleven Anthony

I respect your decision and other ppl decisions but this is dumb. The youtuber in question abused copyright posted those uncut reactions on HER personal website, attack and tried to get channels taken down and stole uncut reactions from other creators to blandly react to it. They delete her patreon for legal reasons due to her website and abuse of copyright. If this was a problem Patreon woulda been brought the hammer down on most creators here but it is what it is I’ll have to find my entertainment elsewhere I guess since I always look at many reactions

Anonymous

I don't really post here at all, but you shouldn't have any real trouble with the reactions as they are. That youtuber wasn't put into controversy because of the uncut reactions, she was already digging her own grave, and the uncut reactions were just another bullet to add. Since you actually react to the episodes rather than just watch them and say something every few minutes, you'll be mostly fine unless you directly antagonize the Japanese companies like she did. I know I'm biased because I truly hate timed reactions, but I'd hate to see the uncut reactions go.

Anonymous

I know this is NOT a solution but im just throwing the idea out there (I have no read all the comments). What about sending the unedited version directly to people DM (Patreon messages)? Patreon posts will be early access or full timer for now. Like this, you will get less exposure (maybe?). And we can hope things will be back to normal in few weeks when Anime Studios decide to move on to other stuffs. But that also means a bit more work for you =/

Kamui

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO CURSE YOU "NAMELESS PERSON (tho I know the name). ALL because of this person everyone is getting afraid

Kamui

yes this idea is good. Only patreon people on discod can watch it. I'm for it.

Kamui

I'm for Discord, with Patreon roles (certified by mods or by you or automatically). But with posting the FULL REACTION on Discord, not on Patreon!

Anonymous

Patreon is targeting anybody who does uncut reactions. Patreon just didn't care before, but all this attention is forcing them to crackdown the same as YouTube.

Anonymous

Patreon just didn't enforce copyright as much as YouTube. However, the anime companies are on their backs now.

Shendue

It's annoying, but I'll cope with that. Timed reactions is better than nothing. What I don't get is this witch hunting they do. It's dumb. They want to protect their copyrighted content, alright, I get it, but it has been proven AGAIN AND AGAIN by countless researches that people that watch copyrighted content stuff illegaly wouldn't have bought it to start with. Also, I'm pretty sure it's a VERY SMALL MINORITY of people that watches reactions. Most people that watches reactions already watched the content beforehand. They gain nothing from doing this. In fact, they potentially alienate their audience, that may become hostile to them and pirate MORE. It would be a more sound business move for them to contact popular reactors and put them under contract, asking them to put ads on their videos in exchange for the use. I've seen some companies do similar stuff in the past. They gave permission in exchange for ads. Everyone happy.

Hey Jaime, Here is a thought. Suzy Lu (you might know her) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdkKIv6BOnQfQN3pxPE0U2Q foresaw this problem and created her own website to host her anime content. She indicated that if things go well she might continue with creating a website for ALL reactors. This was an idea she had. I think this would be a good time to talk to her and see if you all can work on something like that.

Wallet

@jonathan V this whole shenanigans is because of suzy lu

Anonymous

there are like 100 anime reaction channels on here and everybody is getting scared because one got taking down. And it was suzylu channel at that she had it come as long as you dont do nothing stupid like she did you should be fine.

JoyBoy

The problem with that idea is that the company will straight up have to sue SMF in order to take down her videos instead of just filling a copyright strike via YouTube

JoyBoy

The difference between you and Suzy Lu is that she bad mouthed a lot of people, done a bunch of shady stuff and basically brought herself all this attention, her reactions had very little of herself and was just mostly the show on its own while she sat in silence for most of the “reaction”, anyway since people didn’t like Suzy Lu the companies were notified that she was bypassing the copyright system with Patreon, so really she brought this on herself. But I understand the precautions your taking just in case this affects the WHOLE reacting community.

Jonathan V

I don't know what happened with the whole situation with suzy. All I know is that creating a website with only reactors, following the correct copy right laws, would be a HUGE benefit for all reactors.

Wallet

ya its kinda weird how its took this long for them to say oh you cant be doing that you have to change the way you upload things now on patreon

John S

Sorry but if it goes to timer reactions Im out. I cant stand those at all and the hastle of having to find and sync up our own copies is too much. Thats just how it is.

Elmer Alvarado

Can you put a redirect link on Patreon instead of uploading the whole video on Patreon?
