YO War of the worlds won! Awesome! Your reaction to signs made me request that. Signs is pretty much inspired by that movie. Just quick non spoiler trivia about war of the worlds. The story by H.G. Wells wrote The War of the Worlds between the years 1895 and 1897, then there was a radio broadcast that actually caused mass panic before television was a thing.

Addiepool looking like a million bucks in that suit. Does Jeremy get one or? Is there a JeremyPool?

Happy Friday, Addiepool. Thank you for answering my questions. The leftovers will be reworked in future Q&As. Now, here are my thoughts on certain things: 1. Congatulations That's MR. Baldamort, your suggestion of War of the Worlds (2005) just won the Wheel of Addie. 2. Seven years with Jeremy. Now that's sweet. On the day after Christmas, it'll be six years for me and my girlfriend. 3. I was just in Southern California, last month. Luckily, it got cooler. 4. Ugh! Barbie is arguably the WORST movie that I've seen in 2023, AND in my entire life. To this day, I STILL ask myself: "What the hell were Margot Robbie & Greta Gerwig thinking?!" IMO, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning and Oppenheimer were A LOT MORE deserving than Barbie will EVER be. 5. I do hope that you put Twisters (2024) on a future poll. 6. You watching The Waterboy (1998) would be a lot of fun. I've already said this before and I'm saying it again, you're gonna be healed from your Misery PTSD with this Adam Sandler movie. 7. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Parvati Patil used the Riddikulus to transfigure a snake into a jack in the box. In your case, the snake would shapeshift into a long balloon that would whizz away. 8. My favorite horror movies that you've watched was either The Shining (1980), Halloween (1978) or Misery (1990). Those freaked you out the most. I still need to watch Signs (2002).

I was so excited when I thought Sicario was going to win the spinny wheel spin, but War of the Worlds is perfect for spooky season, especially since the original radio broadcast that scared so many people into thinking it was real happened on the day before Halloween in 1938. So, it's a good time to tie in to that. WotW is such an underrated Spielberg film but has some amazing moments and effects in it. I do hope Sicario wins one day, though. Such a fantastic film, as in Network from 1976. Still so relevant today, maybe even more so, actually, It's in my top ten favorite films of all time. Happy Halloween Addie and congrats on 100K!!

Haha, yeah "Barbie" was SO bad that it made, what, over a BILLION dollars at the box office. As one dude to another, it really wasn't targeted specifically towards us, but I actually thought it was great.

Alex Tan

To be fair, the only good part of the movie was the Depression Barbie commercial.

We cant have a Election movie poll and it NOT include "Olympus Has Fallen" (2013) such a fun action thriller with Morgan Freeman and Gerard Butler. Be sure to add that to the election poll if you do one!

Cody Cameron

Please watch Election. It's a good one and would love to see someone react to it. Wag The Dog also good choice

Alex Tan

Another obligatory, if you watch Olympus Has Fallen (2013), then you must watch White House Down (2013).

Doug

Olympis Has Fallen is a fun action movie but it’s not about an election.

For other Alexander Payne films, I'd highly recommend "About Schmidt," "Sideways," "Nebraska," and "The Holdovers." For other Barry Levinson films, I'd highly recommend "Diner;" "The Natural;" "Good Morning, Vietnam;" "Rain Man;" and "Avalon."

- I don’t personally pay much attention to gossip or news about directors, but I’m guessing the problematic directors the questioner was thinking of include for example Roman Polanski and Victor Salva who both faced charges for sexually abusing a minor (Salva was convicted, while Polanski fled the country to avoid trial.) And to a somewhat lesser degree, Hitchcock apparently berated and abused some of his actresses and Woody Allen married his step daughter that he had known since she was 12 (not illegal but… icky). - And on a total tangent the mention of John Malcovich makes me hope Addie watches Being John Malcovich someday. What a bizarre, funny film! 😄

Byrd N. Hand

There are also the more contemporary directors Brett Ratner and Bryan Singer -- both of whom have had sexual assault charges brought against them (and Addie has now seen 4 of their movies each). Personally, I think it's silly to judge something based on the character of the person who made it. I mean, a piece of art can't help who made it any more than any of us can help who our parents are. If we did, there'd be a lot less of it available to consume. 🤷‍♂️ P.S. *Malkovich

War of the Worlds (the 2005 one with Tom Cruise) got bashed a lot when it came out (at least that's what I remember) but it's really not a terrible movie at all. I think you will enjoy it.

Thats MR. Baldamort

Spielbergs War of the Worlds follows the book and the radio broadcast really well. Its the most accurate combination of the two. Reasons it got blasted were because people dont understand the time period the story was written, back in the 1800s before we had a good understanding of germs.

Byrd N. Hand

For me, it's one of Spielberg's more middle-of-the-road movies. Better films of his that don't get nearly as much attention: "Duel," "The Sugarland Express," "A.I.," "Munich," "Bridge of Spies," and "The Fabelmans."

A quick review of Sir Peter Jackson's pre-LOTR career: Bad Taste (1987) - a cheerfully gory and ultra-low-budget zombie movie that made his reputation Meet The Feebles (1989) - imagine if the Muppets were sex-crazed drug addicts with PTSD, and you have this movie Dead Alive (also called Braindead) (1992) - another cheerfully gory and ultra-low-budget zombie movie, but much more polished this time Heavenly Creatures (1994) - a dark, beautiful and surreal movie about a notorious New Zealand murder; the big-screen debuts of both Kate Winslet and Melaine Lynskey; this was the movie that convinced Hollywood he could do LOTR Forgotten Silver (1995) - a 'mockumentary' about the history of the New Zealand film industry, but still a very cool and kind of sad story in its own right The Frighteners (1996) - a Ghostbusters-ish horror comedy with Michael J Fox, very much in the vein of his earlier movies So you can see how it was a real surprise for many when he got picked to direct LOTR: a guy with a history of low-budget gorefests didn't seem the natural choice! But of course it was the right one, and shows why there is a lot of dark comedy and disturbing horror in his LOTR movies. Anyway, all of these movies are highly recommended and would make for some fascinating reactions. Perhaps a personal PJ film festival is in order?

Alex Tan

However, I had my Oppenheimer moment (concern) which was that Hollywood would start making more chick flicks with preachy messages about womanhood as its main focus, in order to follow the success of Barbie (2023) and had very bad thoughts about those movies defeating the other tentpole movies that came out on the same day and dominating the box office, just like Disney had in the latter half of the 2010s, and starting a "Chick-Flick Race 2.0", meaning that Margot & Greta's efforts would only fuel Hollywood's efforts, just as it had with superheroes and Disney films. In my view, it could result in another consequential "chick flick fatigue" amongst moviegoers that would be fed up with overly-homogeneous chick flicks that were being made and start blaming Barbie for causing it.

all the reactors only watch what other reactors watch don't you know.

unless someone pays them to watch something obscure from the 70's or some bs
