I got to be honest, I'm not a fan of this one. Although, I am looking forward for you to seeing 'Rogue Nation', a white-knuckle action spectacle from Christopher McQuarrie. Then next up is 'Fallout', easily one of the best action films in the past decade and it features Henry Cavill acting opposite of Tom Cruise. I'm a big fan of Cavill. For 'Fallout', Tom Cruise actually spent a year getting his helicopter license in order to do a death-defying scene all by himself, acting as actor, pilot, and camera man while maneuvering dangerous narrow peaks and passes in New Zealand. Everyone thought he was nuts!!

Addie, not sure if anybody told you but the last Mission impossible film is Dead "Dead Reckoning" its being filmed in two parts. Part 1 came out in 2023, and Part two is slated for 2025. Do you plan on watching part 1 or would want to wait for both to be out at the same time? Edit: I guess its just called "part 2" as its just a place holder name for an official title. Anyway about this film. So yeah I was in shock he actually climbed the Burj Khlaifa watching the behind the scenes in this movie. Then I saw the next three films at what he actually did.... And Ill leave it at that and cant wait for you to get to them.

Lets not spoil any details about the next movies please until she gets to them, please delete it or modify your comment :)

Happy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend. 😊 I think this is one of my favorites in the series mainly because it's got Jeremy Renner in it. Can't go wrong with both Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in a "Mission Impossible" movie. LOL! The next one is another one of my favorites in this movie series. Have a great day today! 😊

They dropped the part one and "part two" will get a new title

Happy Mission: Impossible Monday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Ghost Protocol (2011), despite the stunts giving you so much anxiety. The next three will only get even more intense from there. See you soon for Rogue Nation (2015).

Ah I didnt know that, I guess a quick google search still has it as "part 2" as a place holder name but its still an untitled film right now. So im curious what it will be called.

Rich

I'm looking forward to watching this to see what you thought about Benji's increased role.

If you thought the stunts gave you anxiety, then imagine seeing this movie in IMAX. Eight scenes in the movie filled up the screen. However, these three had the most impact. Watch these on your computer desk in full screen for maximum effect. Lastly sort or related but on the topic of tom cruise doing his own stunts: Not sure if anybody keeps up with the Olympics, but at the end of the Olympics, Tom Cruise sky dived into the arena. You can find it on YouTube, pretty cool.

And they just keep getting better...that's a rare thing in movie franchisedom. Not even the Bourne series could manage that ('Jason Bourne' *cough!*).

Dude why are you spoiling stunts? Calm down and let her actually watch the films before talking about them.

So glad you are up to this one. This is my very favorite of the franchise. I love all of the movies, but this one hits all the right marks for me.

I am glad they decided to do the opening credits like the t.v. show, where we get to see clips of the upcoming movie. I always loved that when watching the t.v. show. They did it in the first movie, but did not do it on 2 or 3 for some reason.

Yes, Tom Cruise really was on the side of that building. He also went to the top and sat right on the top tip with a helicopter taking photos of him. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fmbazu4a6ml791.jpg

For me, I don't think he will EVER top the stunt in the next film (no spoilers). That was just bat shit crazy. They said no stunt person had ever done that before, not at that high velocity.

Brad Bird made this after Iron Giant and The Incredibles. All his movies pit the heroes against machines. This is the most spy-fi Mission Impossible had been (up to this point) but every device goes wrong or misfires in some way. If Agent Hanaway’s phone hadn’t pinged he wouldn’t have looked away and Moreau wouldn’t have got the drop on him and this whole mess would have been averted.

To be fair, the Bourne movies set a much higher bar with its first 3 movies than this series did. Also, let's be honest: Bourne wasn't nearly as interesting when he actually knew who he was as when he didn't.

In his slight defense, her Letterboxd indicates she's now already watched it (along with "Dirty Harry" [Wednesday's presumptive release] and "War for the Planet of the Apes" [Friday's presumptive release]).

Okay, so I signed up to your Patreon specifically for the MI movies. Even though I love movies 3 through 6, I think this one might be my favorite. For some reason, this one feels like it could've been made in the 90's - everything has that cozy film feel, and the camera movements are mostly smooth - especially in contrast to the previous, gritty, JJ Abrams entry. There is also a cute comradery among the team that reminds me of early MCU/Avengers. Another thing I really appreciate is the musical callback to when Julia returns at the end. This is the same love theme that Michael Giacchino used in MI3 (he did MI4 as well). It's kind of rare in this series to have recurring musical themes, other than variations of the trademark MI song. As others have noted, this was the first live action movie directed by Brad Bird, who is mostly known as an animation director. To me, I think his animation background really comes through. Most of the shots look very pre-planned and storyboarded (in a good way), and there's more of a lighthearted tone throughout.

For more Paula Patton, who plays Jane Carter in this movie, I also suggest: Déjà Vu (2006) https://youtu.be/uxdS8TP37I4?feature=shared & Traffik (2018) https://youtu.be/G7fBlPMLR3A?feature=shared #MorePaulaPattonForAddieCounts
