I remember going to see this movie in the theaters with my dad when it came out. I don’t think we said a word to each other. It was so intense like you said but great movie looking forward to your reaction.

Happy Friday, Addie. Black Hawk Down (2001) is DEFINITELY one intense war movie about the Battle of Mogadishu and the crew of a shot-down Black Hawk helicopter that tries to survive. I own the 2006 Extended Cut of the movie on DVD and I plan on watching it soon. BTW, I'm glad that you recognized Ty Burrell in this movie. This was the third movie that you've seen on your channel that featured an actor from Modern Family.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Thank you Addie looking forward to this. I'm off next week to Iceland and the northcape for a month and will miss my movie queen and the possie. 😀

I always forget how old this movie actually is now, it still looks pretty modern

Alex Tan

Another intense war movie that also has Tom Hardy in it and also has music by Hans Zimmer, that I suggest to you is Dunkirk (2017). #DunkirkForAddieCounts Speaking of Hugh Dancy, I also suggest King Arthur (2004) & Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. #MoreHughDancyForAddieCounts And speaking of Jerry Bruckheimer, two other war movies that I suggest to you, when you're ready for another war movie, are Pearl Harbor (2001), also with Josh Hartnett & directed by Michael Bay, and 12 Strong (2018), with Chris Hemsworth. #MoreJerryBruckheimerForAddieCounts

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 I've been looking forward to this movie since your Q&A from this month. This is such a great movie with a great cast. For more Josh Hartnett I highly recommend the 2001 "Pearl Harbor". For more Ewan McGregor I recommend the 2012 "The Impossible". And for Eric Bana I highly recommend the 2008 "The Other Bolyen Girl". Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

Alex Tan

As a vocal supporter of director Michael Bay's movies, I second Pearl Harbor (2001). I don't care what anyone says, that's one of the Jerry Bruckheimer movies that I've been suggesting to Addie, ever since I joined her Patreon community, two years ago. #PearlHarborForAddieCounts Speaking of Josh Hartnett, who plays SSG Matt Eversmann in this movie, Ernest Lawrence in Oppenheimer (2023) and Zeke Tyler in The Faculty (1998), I also suggest The Virgin Suicides (1999), 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002), Hollywood Homicide (2003), Sin City (2005), 30 Days of Night (2007), the upcoming Trap (2024), and the Guy Ritchie films Wrath of Man (2021) & Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023). #MoreJoshHartnettForAddieCounts And another Ewan McGregor movie that I would suggest is The Island (2005), also directed by Michael Bay. #TheIsland2005ForAddieCounts And another Orlando Bloom movie that I would also suggest is Gran Turismo (2023). #GranTurismoForAddieCounts

For more Eric Bana, I highly recommend "Munich" and "Hanna." For more Ewan McGregor, I highly recommend "Trainspotting," "Velvet Goldmine," "Big Fish," and "Stay."

Alex Tan

Yes! Munich (2005) is a good one. Cassie from PiB just watched it, recently, and I definitely second this movie to Addie. #Munich2005ForAddieCounts Speaking of Eric Bana, who also voices Anchor in Finding Nemo (2003), I also suggest The Hulk (2003). #TheHulk2003ForAddieCounts

'Black Hawk Down' is one of the most authentic war films ever made. Some of the Rangers that fought in the battle actually were technical and military advisors during filming. Also, Delta Force aka now as CAG is the US Army's Tier 1 SOF unit. They officially don't exist, while Army Rangers are classified as Tier 2. Michael Durant credits Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon for saving his life while sacrificing theirs'. True heroes. All of them.

I've read the book by Mark Bowden but don't know if there are inaccuracies. A movie screenplay often has to take dramatic liberties in order to maintain pacing and emotional momentum. Ridley Scott directed a very tense war film, one of the most harrowing I've seen. Not covered in the film but two DEVGRU operators aka SEAL Team Six were on the ground, initially providing sniper cover but entered into the fray. The late Howard Wasdin E-6 was medically discharged due to injuries sustained in the battle of Mogadishu.

Gremlin8723

Fun fact. The cast members who played the Army Rangers, had to go through a modified version of the training. On the last day, a letter was slipped under their doors signed by all the fallen Rangers of Mogadishu. It simply said thank you and tell our story true.

Steve Mercier

The least believable thing in this movie is Ewan McGregor's American accent...not hating on Ewan. Love me some Ewan. Just saying...this movie's really good.

Luis Fernandez

Since there was a small clip shown in this movie, I'll recommend you add The Jerk (1979) to your next comedy poll. It is a classic!

Thank you for watching this one Addie. I knew it would be a tough one, but I’m happy you’re glad that you watched it. Regarding the accuracy, there were a few issues but most of them were fairly minor. The only major one was that the American 10th Mountain, Malaysian and Pakistani soldiers who escorted the Delta Force and Rangers out of the city were engaged more in the battle than the film showed. Otherwise it was pretty accurate. There are a lot of other interesting facts about the real battle and the even the making of the movie itself if you do decide to look more into them. Thank you again for watching it, I always enjoy your reactions but I especially enjoyed this one. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Steve

Crazy PFC Blackburn survived his fall. Don't remember if they showed us that, had to look it up.

Doug

Definitely a lot of familiar faces in this movie, including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (aka Jamie Lannister) playing chess.

Great Reaction as always :) If you want to learn more about what happened, there is a great 2-Part series establishing the Timeline of the real events by the Youtube-Channel "The Operations Room" (Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ApfDyeP7Zk).

So, on friday, had to pause the video at 24 min, went to the ER because I had some bad pains in my tummy. Found out I needed my gallbladder removed. So here I am, 2 days later post surgery gonna finish this reaction!

BubblyRainbows

I still don't know what it was about this movie compared to other war movies, but I started watching war movies when I was a kid in an effort to connect with my dad while he was deployed. And for some reason this one, rather than any of the others, really freaked me out when I first saw it. I was panicked about whether or not my dad was okay after it ended. It's become one of my favorite war movies since then, but I'm not sure why it hit me the way it did the first time. My dad graduated high school just a few years after the events of this movie. If he'd been born just a few years earlier, he might have actually been deployed for this. Now you need to see "Platoon." My grandpa never talked about his time in Vietnam, but he did have one thing to say about it when we watched it together one time. I can't share it here because it might count as a spoiler, but when you do get around to "Platoon," I'll share it then. ✌️🤓

I absolutely am. Well, recovering and in bed, watching movies. Your reactions are always a treat addie. You being you helps me take my mind off this mess xD

Alex Tan

Hear, hear. Addie, your reactions & South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (1999) did keep me smiling when I got Covid, shortly after vacationing to Orlando, Florida, back in May, 2022, two months before I became a top-tier Patreon patron.

Philip Davetas

I was actually slotted to deploy to that back in the day. We all got vaccinated and everything, but by the time we were up and ready it was all over. It was only a couple days. In the end they only wound up taking support groups like Hemmits and truck drivers so they could move food around.

I think addie was watching a "edited for TV" version because I had to pause and resync multiple times due to way shorter scenes in addies version.

Addie Counts

You might have been watching the Extended Cut of the movie? That one adds about seven minutes to the runtime

May I ask where you were watching your copy from? I would love to go back and re watch this reaction with the copy you had :)
