Great show so far! What's really infuriating to watch (as evidenced by Addie shouting at the screen multiple times!) is how much pure bureaucratic incompetence in the first hours after the explosion thoroughly exacerbated the outcome. Imagine how much different this would have been had the people in charge actually acknowledged what people were telling them had happened from the start. The area around Chernobyl would still be uninhabitable, but at least they could have evacuated people much sooner and had that much more time to plan out their response. On a interesting tangent, as ominously predicted in the hotel scene this episode, Deputy Chairman Boris Scherbina did in fact die four years after the Chernobyl incident. It's suspected he succumbed to cancer due to his exposure at Chernobyl but per a decree he signed two years after the incident doctors were prevented from citing radiation as a cause of death so it's not certain.
