Summary: During WWII, a human heart taken from a certain lab in Europe (Dr. Frankenstein's) is kept in a Japanese lab, when it gets exposed to the radiation of the bombing of Hiroshima. The heart grows in size, mutates and sprouts appendages, and eventually grows into a complete body and escapes. Later, a feral boy with a certain physical deformity (a large head with a flat top) is captured by scientists who refer to the boy as Frankenstein. The creature grows to the height of 20 feet, escapes again, fights police and army, and is practically indestructible. Later, a reptilian monster goes on a rampage. Eventually the Frankenstein creature and the reptile face off in a terrible battle.

We all know that Frankenstein is the name of the creator, not the monster but I read somewhere the reason particularly Americans get in a muddle with it is many of them grew up watching these movies where Frankenstein * is * the name of the monster. No idea if that's true.

There is little doubt that even with the silliest of ideas, Inoshiro Honda could make a compelling monster story out of it. Look at Dogora for example.

Stephen Crane

I don't know if it's just me but I kept getting a vibe from the Kaijin of the rock star (who came from California) who marries Sally Simpson in Tommy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjbKH4_roG4

Gamera’s Barugon was the better of the two monsters with that name (or at least near identical pronunciation, I’m too proud to Google it). I’ve never seen a rainbow presented as an entirely serious threat before or since.

Isn't the creature's heart just...a regular heart, though? That Victor stole and reanimated? Shouldn't everybody at Hiroshima start growing into giants?

I think they are commenting on the large number of children with Pituitary Gland issues born in the area in the years after.
