Detractor's Commentary: the Vampire Happening

Pity poor Fredy Mayne, going from "Fearless Vampire Killers" to this. Still, the rent must be paid. Speaking of money...people would so be ready to buy autographed source material DVDs.

In most vampire films, it seems as though everyone the vampire bites turns into a vampire automatically. This really doesn't make sense, because if it were true, they'd be up to their fangs in competition for scarce resources. Especially in films like Pere et fils, where one - very fast - bite finishes off a donor AND turns them within minutes. The Hammer Dracula cycle started out with it being much more like the book, a sort of courtship, where the vampire makes his "bountiful winepress" last for weeks, and only turns those that he chooses. Later on, they got sloppy & speeded up the process to the point where it seems like Wendy Hamilton (Scars of Dracula) dies of anaphylactic shock more than blood loss. Sorry... but it's a thing that gets me up on a soap box.

Let me know when you're ready to start selling the Official Dark Corners Reviews source DVDs, autographed by the Dark Lords themselves, and I'll take a lucky dip!

Likewise , I find cash for that.

In 'Blade' it's the result of a secretion that turned people if they aren't killed by the initial feed. So that either the Vampire chooses to turn someone or interrupted as with Karen and Blade's mother. They go into it a bit more in the comics.

There is actually a bit of a sad story with Pia Degermark who starred in this. She suffered from anorexia from childhood and later fell in with the Kommune drug scene, being close with Uschi Obermaier. She later served a prison sentence for drug offences and now lives in a psychiatric care home.

I reread Dracula once a year, and as far as I know the rules are: If you are drained of blood, that is, you die BECAUSE of Dracula's predations, you will become a vampire, as Lucy Westenra did. Van Helsing states that if they could have kept her alive one more day (after she's been bitten four times) they still could have saved her, so if she had been fully recovered she would have lived and died as a normal human. Dracula's other method is biting you, than force-feeding you his blood, as with Mina, which he did in order to turn her into a thrall. This wasn't an instant thing--nobody knew if/when she would turn. She could have lived a full normal life, died of old age and then arisen as an Undead bride. Once Dracula was killed, she lost the curse of his tainted blood.
