Yes, it's that time of the year again when we scrabble desperately about for a Christmas movie to review and this one was recommended by someone on Twitter. An alien arrives in Canada in a flying saucer with a very long antenna (for reasons probably made clear by this picture). This is another of those films where I could have gone either way but one thing just crystallised the review for me, in this case the behaviour of the parents - they made the film worth reviewing. It does get harder to find Cult Christmas movies that suit us but I'm pretty happy with this one.

Have you been recommended Feeders 2: Slay Bells? It's a shot-on-video affair, on par with the likes of Woodchipper Massacre or Weasels Rip my Flesh.

I've always had a weak spot for "Weasels Rip my Flesh". Somebody liking Frank Zappa, smoking some good stuff suddenly says "Wow! What a great movie title, let's finish this doobie and go make it!" But, on topic, It's a bit modern but I remember being on a business trip to Houston 5 years back where, idly flipping through 300 channels of rubbish, I came across an 80's film called Christmas in July. It was a stop motion thing that reused characters from some 70's kids Xmas film. DIRE! Now my memory has kicked in. Didn't Hulk Hogan do an Xmas movie with him as Santa? Bloody awful as I recall. Hang on. I've got a VHS tape here - "Elves". One of those 1980's bad special effects things, like Ghoulies but without the class... Why do I still have a copy? Deanna Lund of course. Gorgeous. Go try this one.

Yes, but it was a bit recent for us. We'll probably come back to it at some point as we are running out of Christmas ones. rb

'Santa with Muscles' was Hulk Hogan's Christmas film it's not great. Clint Howard channelling Roscoe P Coltraine and Buford T Justice as the Sherif is great. Plus it's now best known for being Mila Kunis' first film role.
