Stephen Crane

My first classic movie (shown to me by my uncle) was Robot Monster. When I made it through that, he put on Casablanca. Whenever I need a palette cleanser, I put on Robot Monster. It reminds me that movies are as good as the effort put into them.

Yay, it's here! Corman definitely improved as he went on--as you point out with things like the pacing. So you could say he learned from himself. Of course, the "love" story is unforgivable to modern eyes, but he was hardly the only director to take what to modern eyes is horrific behavior and stage it as a meet cute/rom com; The Wolfman featured stalking as adorable, for example.

Corman without Garland? No thank you, sir. Also, did anyone ever figure out what happened to the actor who played the main character in The Terror? As far as I can tell he disappeared off the face of the earth immediately after.

Of course I wrote my last comment without double checking--Corman didn't actually direct this one. But you could speculate that he watched it, went "this has potential but the pieces are lined up wrong" and used that when he began directing.

I think we can say that the later film was NOT a remake!
