So Dark Corners are(is?) the ones who stole F.W. Murnau’s skull! I knew it! But anyway, going off your note of the poster costing more than the movie, isn’t The Maltese Falcon prop now worth more than it’s estimated price in the film? I think movie posters are an under appreciated art form, especially now that you can whip up one for your blasé horror film in the time it takes to read this (and have the poster still look 100x more scary than the actual film). I think the sale of the Dracula poster could possibly spur interest in old movies and the art in their posters, so thats a good thing. Maybe rather than worrying about the money-art connection, we can hope that someone notices this and thinks “people like this style of poster, maybe I’ll give an artist a chance and see if it works.” Its not too likely, but we can hope. And it might be heresy, but I think the Jaws 2 sunset poster is the best looking of the franchise.

Robin , I agree that many of these posters are great pieces of art and should be treated as such. In the 60's one America's greatest artists , Frank Frazetta did poster art for a number of movies ( mostly British comedies ) and sure that those posters would go for a good amount of money ( the least a Frazetta painting went for was $ 300,000 ).

If you want to see something interesting , check out Polish movie posters. Instead using the posters that American and British movie studios sent with their films, the Poles instead created their own. Check them out, they're interesting to say the least.
