It's interesting that you mention the empathy thing because I was thinking about this the other day. Where did Midge learn to be a caring person when neither Rose nor Abe really seem to have that ability?

Rose bothered me so much this episode. I know she's meant to be unlikable in that sequence, but I think it's intended to be in a comedic way, and for me, it just isn't - it's annoying and unpleasant. Apart from that, I love this episode. The Shy stuff is fantastic, and the Joel stuff (which I didn't love on first watch) works much better now that I've seen his whole arc. Also, I never caught the "Julie Andrews" -> "Miss Julie" joke before! This show is so dense with gags, there's always new stuff to discover.

43 episodes total - only 8 this season so you're onto the penultimate episode of season three, and you are over half way thru the series! Originally airing on December 6, 2019, 'Kind of Bleau' is Episode 6 of Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 24th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.5, placing it as the #3 ranked episode of this season and #10 out of all the episodes shown so far.

I haven’t had the chance to watch this one with you guys yet so I’ll be back with thoughts at some point but I wanted to stop by and share this video. I mentioned I was gonna send it after 305 but it ended up having the opening sequence from this ep so I had to wait! This is cinematographer David Mullen talking about filming the USO show and the Miami scenes. He is just an incredible wealth of knowledge and you see how much they put into this show! https://youtu.be/4NxMX_aWbCE?si=TKnuhfdKkic5f_24

The cinematography interview that was shared last time "rolls over" into this episode, it's really amazing the creativity that has gone into producing the look of the show.

You guys are some of the best reactors I've seen, and the only ones I currently support on Patreon. I am really enjoying rewatching these shows with you guys. You are knowledgeable, compassionate, and sincere, and I like that you focus on the technical aspects of the shows as well as the plot and character development. But I must admit I chuckled a bit when you realized that Shy and the other black performers weren't allowed to stay at Midge's hotel because they were in the Jim Crow South in 1960. It was too precious, "Ooohhhh." Lol. But in all seriousness, as a black person I cringe when I hear people talk about the "Good old days." Good for whom exactly?

Thank you so much for saying that, we really appreciate your support! You're right, the 50s and 60s are romanticized for aesthetic and pop culture but in reality it was very ugly. Shows like Mad Men really break through that facade. This show feels so contemporary in a way that we didn't even think about the Jim Crow South. Really sobered up the episode. Very powerful moment.
