Another option for a (very good) comedy is Derry Girls. It's very funny and touches on a lot of themes :)

It's funny to think about the development of public perception of the show. It was very "undercover" in the first season or two -- I had to be told about it by a friend, a month into its run -- partly because it aired on a rather obscure channel (Pop), and partly because it really was what it sounded like, "an episodic sitcom about a rich family who lost their money and had to move to a crummy small town," at first. But it kept developing, and so did its popularity, and after its final season, as you say, it unexpectedly swept the Emmys.
