Such an amazing episode. I love hearing "This Will Be Our Year" by The Zombies at the end. Great to see you guys finally watch Luke's Emmy-winning performance! A lot has already been said here in the comments (all of the stand up is real Lenny's, Steve Allen performance is one of the few we have actual video of, etc.) Luke has said he listens to the recordings over and over to get it all down. Even the ums and ahs and snaps. I know the original Lenny version was linked but here's a side by side comparison of them. It's incredible to see the detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZKDaccsK-4. Also, yes, this is about his marriage troubles, but in real life he was already divorced in '57 and the show started in '58. In the show, he stops wearing his ring when we see him in 2x05. They've talked about how since this isn't a biopic, they don't really worry about his chronology too much. It's more about the character having his essence than it being the actual Lenny Bruce. Something I noticed is that you guys get pretty quiet during the Lenny scenes here. They're very different and introspective. Rachel has said they're some of her favorite scenes to shoot because he changes the pace of the show. It's so quick and frenetic, but when they see each other it slows down. Lenny really opens himself up to her here, and it sets a precedent for the rest of their interactions going forward. They're my favorite too and can't wait for you guys to see more of them! I guess I'm the resident Lenny fan here lol. Regarding the movie Lenny, it's definitely a lot darker than this show. I think it's a great Fosse directing feat and has beautiful b/w cinematography, but I shockingly don't like Hoffman or the film really. Like you guys said, some actors can't nail being a comedian on screen and I just didn't feel it with him. Valerie Perrine is great as his wife Honey though. Man, I've written a lot here lol but as I've said before, this is one of my favorite moments in the show. Season 3 is definitely a journey. Once again have an ep that I'm very excited for you guys to see!

Forgot to mention-- Lenny's real daughter Kitty Bruce visited the set the day they shot that scene at the bar. She's very supportive of Luke's portrayal https://twitter.com/realKittyBruce/status/1040388132515078144
