I know that, in some ways, it's being played for humor, but for me, the hardest part of this show was watching "Clark" manipulate poor Martha. Even more than the regular killing and torturing, the ongoing emotional cruelty toward her really drives home Phillip's commitment to his work, as well as his ease at justifying amoral behavior as necessary for his mission. By the way, there was no real baby boom in the Soviet Union after the war. There was a temporary rise in birth rates, but in 1946-47 the Soviets suffered through a famine that killed nearly a million people. The population then gradually recovered over the next ten years.

Yeah, I was kind of joking when I referred to them as "the workforce." They suffered so much after the war and it really is tragic. As for Martha, it's so freaking dark. I don't know where it's headed but it can't be good.

No character is safe on this show, even if the actor is still there!
