I'm Making Up For Lost Time

I suppose we actually had 1.75 songs this episode: in addition to "Child Star" we had Tucker's nearly complete reprise of "One Indescribable Instant" (which, as Rebecca exclaimed, sounds great in real life, not just in his head). Luca Padovan was an amazing child performer (I say "was" only because he's no longer a kid; he turned 20 last month). He started on Broadway at 10, appearing in Newsies and School of Rock, and in 2018 his solo performance led off the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on TV, 3 weeks after this episode aired.

Regarding the kids: I find the juxtaposition between Tucker and Paula's kids interesting. On the surface, Tucker seems like an "ideal kid": he's polite, well-spoken, and ambitious, i.e., the type of person parents often hope to see in their kids. Paula's kids, on the other hand, are more stereotypical teenagers, and seem like "mindless lumps" on the first glance. However, you could also say that on a deeper level, Paula's kids are much more content and confident. Sure, Paula has not been the most attentive parent but she and Scott have not left their kids any huge traumas either, and that will probably carry their kids a long way. (A tiny spoiler: We will learn more about Paula's kids in this season, and it's gonna enhance what we already learned about them in this episode.) On the contrary, Tucker is dealing with a lot of internal turmoil, and his overtly nice personality seems to be a facade, at least partly. If not stopped, he could def become Rebecca 2.0. I'm not sure how intentional this it but the show seems to send a message that to get healthy adults, you need to let kids be kids. Rebecca and Tucker both had to grow up too fast, and it is probably a huge reason why they are struggling mentally.

I love that so much. Trauma is definitely inherited in most cases. Let kids be kids is such a good point.
