An excellent example of how a story doesn't have to end with "happily ever after" to end on a perfect note.

this episode is definitely up there with my favorite series finales!! (alongside better call saul, the americans, the leftovers, etc.) always felt that this was the best end for this series despite its bittersweet feeling

That final bus stop scene is one of my favorite scenes of all time. It’s painful and beautiful and hopeful all at the same time. Just because you know the relationship won’t work out, it doesn’t take away the fact that they both love each other. Sometimes that’s just the way it is.

This is the best happy finale. She finally break her own wall and said "i love u" to someone. Maybe isn't the idilic ending, but for her is a huge step into growing to a better healthy person. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an amazing writer. U should check out some other works of her like "killing eve" and "run".

Theres so many things i can say about this show its insane. The one thing i will say right now, is that fleabag starts of this series by saying "this is a love story". And while thats true, fleabags love with the priest, claire and klare, even to some extent the dad and godmother - i think it was truly just about fleabag learning that she *can* love again after boo, that shes not a heartless monster like she tried to make herself into in the first season. Shes learning to love herself, and not need something like the audience to rely on, which is why i find that ending scene so beautiful. Love this show!!

PWB had originally said that Fleabag was intended to be a one-and-done, and there wouldn't be a second season unless and until she came up with something that would work. And of course she eventually did. Because PWB is a genius. Now there's a brilliant analysis (posted below) for why there absolutely cannot be a third season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAD9hyXAkB0&t=3s I can't fault any of that. There's no possible way for there to be a third series. BUT. BUT. If there's anyone that could find a way to make a third season work, it's the genius that is PWB*. If I need to wait ten years for Fleabag +10, that's fine by me. (* The fact that her partner is Martin McDonough probably couldn't hurt either).

So many great things about this finale, and you pretty much nailed them all. I loved how, beforehand, you both had said "There's too much to address in 27 minutes, they can't possibly do it all," and they DID! I'm especially pleased by the father saying "She's not everybody's cup of tea. But neither are you, darling." And then she perfectly, wonderfully repeats back to him what he told her on the day of her mother's funeral: "Buck up. Smile. Charm. Off we go." If we pay close attention during the priest's speech at the wedding -- especially on a second viewing -- we can see him arriving at his discovery that God is where he needs to put his love, and then Fleabag immediately, achingly understanding that. (In their final scene, she knew it already before he said it.) I like to imagine that his "Don't ever come to my church again" isn't an absolute declaration for all time. Maybe after considerable time has passed and she has perhaps met and found contentment with someone, she can encounter the priest again and they can become true friends; they do make good friends. BUT I don't want to see any of that depicted on TV. This is a PERFECT series finale and it should stay that way.

Bittersweet is the perfect way to describe it. You want more but at the same time you're contempt with how it ended.

I had no idea that was her partner! Two writing powerhouses!! We're just huge fans of her and will watch whatever she does in the future!!

Yes it should keep some of its ambiguity. I love their chemistry and could watch 10 seasons of this show. Glad they ended it how they did.
