Not that they haven't been doing it all season, but THAT is how you make a very tricky topic into a compelling, intelligent, funny even, and compassionate television show.

Sunkrish Bala

After asking him if he prefers "Jed" or "Mr President," and Bartlet saying he prefers "Mr President" to distance himself from the decisions the office has to make... Father Cavanaugh insists on calling him "Jed" at the end when he asks him to confess..... he's not letting Bartlet hide behind the office.

Also: fun fact.. Karl Malden brought the same bible he used in On the Waterfront to film that scene.

This is amazing! I love watching you guys see entire episodes! I have done this with so many friends who have never seen the show, and they can't stop watching it over and over again!

Roland Cooke

Texas performed its first execution of the year this week. :(

Love that you are doing more episodes a week!

The Josh/Joey Lucas scenes in this are some of my favorite comedy bits from the show. When he spits (dribbles?) the coffee onto his shirt I laugh every time.

I was Catholic as a kid, and we were told that story of the man drowning. I’m no longer religious, but that story has always stuck with me as a lesson during tough times. What has always gotten me about this episode is that when you watch it for the first time, it’s easy to hold on to some hope right to the end that they’ll stay the execution. They’re a democratic administration, all liberal people, and most of them are so against it that it would make sense for the show to have them make the call in those final minutes. But they don’t. And the true emotion displayed in the immediate aftermath is part of what makes this show so great.

Hearting this felt wrong given the context, so I’ll just say thanks for giving a really relevant, important, depressing fact.

Shoutout to Allison Janney for the “I wish I didn’t know his mother’s name” scene. I agree, like you said, that that script was good — BUT the weight that she gave it was CRAZY. This prestige cast is almost hard to deal with at times. Also shoutout to Toby for actually going into the Oval Office and saying his peace. Toby and Jed’s relationship is one of my favorite in the series!

Yeah, it was rough that politics ended up winning out over what the people in power thought was right.

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, that line really killed me. It was haunting. Allison Janney is an incredible talent.

"He sent you a priest, a rabbi, and a Quaker, Mr. President. Not to mention his son, Jesus Christ. What do you want from him?" I understand people that prefer Toby, CJ, Josh or Leo. But, we have to just admit that every time Martin Sheen portrays Jed on screen he's far above everyone else. He's the perfect actor for the perfect role. He gets the most difficult scenes, the most difficult and impossible emotions to portray. He's the center of the world, literally, but it's this black hole that just destroys you. Martin Sheen is a blessing God sent us to witness art on screen
