I cannot tell you how much I just freaked out when I saw you dropped this! It's one of my FAVORITE sitcoms and it totally flies under the radar. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. If you stick with the show and finish it, I highly recommend watching the reunion table reading they did a few years back. It is batshit and an absolute delight.

I didn't know this was coming -- what a delight! Definitely a favorite of mine, and there's barely a weak episode in the 57 they made. Fortunately HBO Max has the episodes in the right order (unlike other streaming services in the past, which stuck to the ABC order of airing which stuffed the funniest episodes first and made some plot developments unintelligible). Historically speaking, this show was a bit groundbreaking in its time too, as among all the sitcoms in the wake of Friends, with the premise "6 longtime friends hang out," this was the first to include an interracial marriage and a gay guy (and not a stylish "fabulous" one) among the core group, without emphasis just as a matter of course. Such things seem too ordinary to mention now, but Happy Endings played a part in making them so. You may want to watch with subtitles turned on, as one very fun ongoing feature is scenes with overlapping dialogue -- everyone talking at once. The pilot already had two prime examples: the gang's response to Dave asking if Alex really told them the sex was bad, and their answers to Max asking if he was really fat. (Among which I especially treasure "like a young Kathy Bates" and "if Paul Rudd gave up.") The line-by-line joke ratio on this show is sometimes off the charts.
