The thing about John Hoynes as Vice President, is that while he did have his spine, moral stance, and political ambition .. Whenever he was asked, despite his judgement, he acquiesced to the president. When the two people (one a child) was killed in church, Hoynes didnt want to goto Texas and speak against conceal and carry laws.. but he did. When it came to the Ethanol tax credit, which he spent his life opposing, he was going to vote for it at the presidents will (though he did not have to thanks to Sam). he is politically savvy to know that when it was his time to run for President, he would need the support of the current President (or at least not his condemnation) to have any chance. How many times can Bob Russel say no to President Bartlet before risking having no chance in career politics when the term expires?

Next week’s episode, The Stormy Present, has a shift in directors and feels more cinematic than recent episodes (in my humble opinion). You may want to close your eyes after the opening credits to avoid seeing the guest star names.

Ellie is portrayed by actress Nina Siemaszko, not Hope Davis, they do share a strong resemblance. Siemaszko also portrayed Annette Bening’s sister in The American President.

I think they did a huge effort to write a christmas episode worth of Sorkin, and they did a very decent job of thinking about issues that could hit, and put in the sorkinesque, heart stringy moments. And they kinda managed to do the real Sorking thing, which is start out by vastly different issues, which eventually gather around the same common theme for an even bigger impact. Here, I think, the kinda common theme is personal/family life vs politics. Sacrificing your family moments for your political career (Gus and the tree, Liz's childhood, Doug vs White Hous, Liz and Doug; CJ sacrificing her opportunity to care for her father for her job). So, well done.

Joe here. I didn't wanna be that guy in the video, but I'm unfamiliar with Hope Davis lol! Ellie was portrayed spectacularly though

I don't think it's better than any of the Sorkin Christmas episodes. It was still very good though. Quality episode.
