They said it was proton radiation (or at least that was the part of the CME reaching them first), so I think the rippling of the dust was the protons actually magnetizing the lunar regolith. Very very cool visual despite how terrifying it is for Molly and the Belgian astronaut. I have mixed feelings about them keeping the space shuttle in this timeline (and even sending them to the Moon). On one hand it avoids deviating too much too quickly from the real time line and risking it feeling less grounded, on the other hand the shuttle was a pretty inefficient platform in a lot of ways and only becomes more so as a lunar vehicle (where its wings are useless dead mass). I otherwise do really like how they deviate from history but keep a lot the same or similar, it would feel less grounded if they had some fictional president after Ted Kennedy for example. AFAIK they're not using deepfakes specifically (as in AI generated) for these political figures, just stitching together real photos and videos with either voice actors or real audio where they can find fitting clips. The same voice actor, Jim Meskimen, did Nixon, Ted Kennedy, AND John Lennon.
