I'd hate to break you guys with this but on this subject, if you want to see Japan's side of WW2, watch grave of the Fireflies. It's important to watch but so, so hard. But I remember in 2011, people here in America were saying Japan deserved the tsunami disaster that happened because of pearl harbor and while yes, Japanese government and many soldiers did heinous things, they attacked a military base vs us using the the atom bombs. BUT more importantly, the civilians of Japan were treated poorly on top of our war methods that were barbaric. Grave of the Fireflies really showcases the civilian side of things and its based from the story of the train station children. Children who lost their homes and families so they hid in the train stations from the fire drops and inevitably starved to death or treated like criminals. War is horrendous no matter what side you're on and the movie made me understand that more deeply than anything else
