I watched FMA, the original one , not Brotherhood and I don't know why I remember Hughes's death episode being much later in that series. But his murder really broke me and I started liking Roy Mustang only once he made the vow to avenge his death.

lmao the word "Führer" is just a military title. It existed before the Nazis, just like the word "Reich". It doesn't have any ideological significance to it lmao you American people are still so obsessed with WW2 I think it's hilarious xD

Didier

Yeah that scene with Hughes happened way later in the "original" series. I think it's because when FMA Brotherhood came out, the staff probably assumed that most of the fanbase already knew all this part of the story, so they probably rushed the pacing a little bit to come to the new part that the older series hadn't adapted yet, since FMABrotherhood is a reboot.

Westerschwelle

You are wrong. The word Führer alone has never been any kind of military title and given what an authocratic nation Amestris is, the connotation with the third reich is most probably not accidental.

Alexandre

I have to concur with Westerschwelle here, "Führer" is absolutely not a neutral title. It is a normal word, but its usage as a title is only associated with the Third Reich. Using it here is anything but innocent. Mind you, it's a translation choice. The Japanese use 'Daisoto' for King Bradley's title, which could be translated as 'President', 'Great President' or 'Great Leader'. I think 'Führer' in Japanese is translated as 'Soto', (hence King Bradley's full title being 'Führer-President'), but someone more knowledgeable than me in this area may correct me.

Hughes' death is later in FMA. Brotherhood(BH) moves rapidly for the first 15ish episodes. Hughes dies in episode 25 of the original. If you look at the two shows, BH covers almost double the content in one episode. Another example is that we meet Scieszka (bookworm) in Episode 7 here but in Episode 18 in the original.

A few reasons why Hughes dies so much later in the Original is because there was more content covered. Review these last ten episodes; it feels like we are on a train that doesn't stop. We spent more time with Tucker/Nina, and Hughes in the original. One, if not two, arcs were skipped in BH. I haven't read the manga, so I don't know what was filler and cannon in the Original. So, the Original could also have some extra fluff. FMA aired in 03 while BH aired in 09. BH thought that most viewers would be individuals who had seen the original, so they wanted to reach the point where the original anime deviated from the manga as fast as possible. Since BH is a remake, the show didn't want to spend too much time reviewing content already fleshed out in the Original. They felt the viewers would get bored and lose their attention.

Lastly, companies in Japan don't place a lot of importance on anime. Companies value manga sales at a high level and typically view anime as a way to encourage people to buy the manga. America likes movies/shows so that they can sell them, promote merchandise, and don't care about the book. Japan, on the other hand, is the opposite. The book will encourage the merchandise, not the movie or show. That said, BH wanted to end either before or right as the manga ended. If this were the case, people would still want and be encouraged to buy/read the manga. But if the show were to air years after the manga finished, then they thought people would have already known the ending of the show because they read the mange; thus, the anime wouldn't be profitable, and those that did watch the show, very few of them would be inclined to buy the manga.

Wes, I am starting to believe you watched the original. Like I replied some further up, Hughes dies in episode 25 in the original, while Brotherhood kills him off in episode 10. The original hurt so much more because we see, hear, interact with, and love Hughes for almost an entire season ("Most short anime last about 24ish episodes back in the day"). He was always supportive, fun, and positive to the brothers that it felt like our father figure was being ripped away from us. The funeral hits hard here, especially hearing his daughter cry. But seeing his life fade away in the original, you were already balling your eyes out.

Fox

I mean he has watched a lot of the anime they reacted to before. You can tell by his expressions. Like he knows something "good" is about to happen, he smiles. Yet their stans call him smart for "figuring" these things out.
