Yes, the Hamptons are in New York. Specifically, Long Island, just outside New York City. The average high for that area in September is 73, so yeah, that water would've been brisk to say the least. Waves have NOTHING to do with water temperature. The ocean temperature is purely set by how much heat it recieves from the Sun on a particular day. The colder the temperature outside, the colder the ocean will be. Waves are caused by wind and also from the gravitational pull of both the Sun and the Moon. "Fire in the hole" is how the saying goes. Spawn has multiple meanings, but in this case it's a derogatory term to refer to someone's offspring. The way you said the word suggested you didn't know what it meant so... When Emily told Lydia, "I hope your husband's feeling better," she knew exactly what she was doing. She was told when she was looking to rent the beach house that Lydia and Michael were going through a divorce, so she would know Conrad wasn't her husband. The joke about the Harvard man and the light bulb... When Emily says she's drunk enough to find the joke funny, but if she drinks any more she might think Daniel is serious, she's referring to Daniel being the subject of the joke. He's the Harvard man that the whole world revolves around.
