Hey eveyone, hope that your week has started well!

I just wanted to pop in and give a behind the scenes post indicating the 'roadmap' of sorts that I'm planning on moving on this year. If you're not interested then have a quick watch of the above above and feel free to bounce. ;)

With a version just released and in view of the many endings waiting to be made for The Pill, it seemed like a good time to re-evaluate my tools of choice. As some of you know, I primarily use Daz Studio, which has benefits but also significant limitations.

If you see an animation out there with silky smooth bouncing boobs, odds are it was done in either Blender, Maya or a combo of the two. Daz is a bit archaic in what's called "soft body physics" (which allows for those impressive jiggles). The others also allow for motion capture, which is something I plan to incorporate into my work this year (and if the timing is right, will play into the aforementioned endings).

Daz's main boon is its vast capacity for character creation. You'll may note that many of the impressive animations out there often use Overwatch (or other well known) characters. That's because someone created copies of the models which work really well with Blender. Making new and unique characters in those programs is a long and arduous process.

Wanting to use my own characters has kept me in the Daz sphere so far. But after spending a full day on Tuesday I think I've finally cracked how to get Daz characters (e.g. Trish, Belle and Luca) into Blender.

The attached content is some trials I have done. The animation might not seem revolutionary, but after a one day or orientation and the fact that it is the first 3D animation I've done not in Daz Studio in over a decade I'm happy with it. The Blender render engine also doesn't look that bad too, maybe not as good as Daz's, but still impressive.

I've been slowly tiptoeing my way towards learning Blender for over a year now and figure it is now time to jump in. But as anyone who has learned a new program (especially those who have tried Blender) that takes time.

So for the next few months, I'm going to be balancing my time between learning Blender, converting the endings to animations (first step there is making scripts for VA's) and of course, making the monthly rewards!

If that sounds like a lot, it's cause it kind of is, but fear not, whenever I figure out a new trick in Blender I'll share it out, and unlike the big version updates, I'll be releasing the ending reworks as I go.

In all I'm very excited by it all, and all the new possibilities now in front of me.

tl;dr I'm working on learning Blender for future animations.

Oh ho! Very nice! Gotten into learning blender myself in the past month. It's pretty overwhelming at first, but the more you pick up, the more you realize you can do with it. As for renders, Eevee is fast but takes a lot of tweaks to make it look good. Cycles is the way to go. I'm sure you've checked it out already, but maybe it'll help someone; BlenderGuru has a ton of great info and tutorials on YouTube. The tutorials are simple stuff, but the skills are applicable to most projects.

Thanks for the tip Jake, I'll definitely look into it. I did the Belle one mostly as a proof of concept, making sure that I could get her both functional and looking good, but there's heaps more to learn. Blender definitely is overwhelming, but even after the short play around with the animation tools it already had me not wanting to go back to Daz.

And good luck with your own journey! If you come across any tips you think would be useful be sure to let me know ;)

Looking forward to the results!

Yes, I see what you mean. I on my own side also think to try Blender out. I enjoy to work with DAZ, but the limitations and errors take a lot of my nerves over time. Well, now it is easy for me ;) I look how far your progress with Blender went. As an helping hand: Maybe you know Jay, the WP Guru? He shows fantastic tutorials, also for Blender, Marvelous Designer, DAZ and some more on YT. Maybe it can help you on your digital quest :)

DUxMORTEM

i think if you did a side by side of this clip with both systems to demonstrate the differences would make alot more sense.

DODGE26

This is very cool. I'm rather interested in the process of converting a Daz model to a Blender one with the rigs intact as it could be helpful in some ways

First set of results are in on the dynamic boob variety, new post with Trish is up ;)

I mainly use the daz to blender bridge, which works relatively well, though I have found that after one transfer you need to reboot blender for it to not go pear shaped.

begrove

This is true, but the animation between both cannot be transferred easily. If I was purely doing a quality of render test I'd work do a side by side, but Blender offers much more functionality in a long term so my judgement call is more based on whether Blender loses too much quality compared to my previous work in Daz. To me, Belle looks different, but not awful, so I call the progress a success.

DUxMORTEM

I was more asking because i dont understand anything you have said in terms of explanation. Im not against the change i just dont understand why. Which is why i was wondering if a video comparison was possible.

begrove

Ideally the two programs shouldn't look that different. Heck if I could get daz and Blender to look identical I would like that, but the move is more because it gives me access to new tools when animating (like the dynamic boobs in the Trish test). Using Blender allows for things like motion capture, using physics simulations on body parts and generally faster animation. Those are things I'm hoping to explore more in the future, at this stage I'm just happy that I can get the models across and working at all.

DUxMORTEM

Well i hope it works out. Does this mean we are going to get reworked endings for stuff like the pill

begrove

That is the case. Reworking the endings into animations is what I'm working on right now.

DODGE26

Hmm very interesting I may give that a try someday
