The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox & Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.

The game has an average/problematic HDR implementation.

It does read and apply the system-level HDR calibration up to 1.000 nits, but it will still offer an in-game HDR Brightness slider which, as soon as you will touch it, will totally disregard the system HDR settings and shift to the in-game calibration...which has no numerical value at all so do not touch it in-game.

After system-level calibration is setup correctly for your TV, just launch the game and Confirm it as is when prompted.

UPDATE: If you don't like the system HDR Calibration results (e.g. if they are too dim) and deliberately want to bypass/improve them with the in-game slider, try increasing it by +4 Clicks from Default/Middle position.

That said, the game intentionally has raised blacks as a stylistic choice (similar to what RE2: R had) which you cannot adjust in-game this time tho.

It is the same thing also with calibrated SDR (but there you can "adjust" it literally by crushing blacks selecting the wrong in-game setting of sRGB).

If you really don't like it in HDR, you can directly lower the TV HDR Brightness from Default to something around 43-44 to compensate (but I don't recommend it).

UPDATE #2:

After patch 1.12 now the game added a "Black Point Correction" slider, but even a slight change of -1 click from default will severely crush blacks... :/

So I recommend to leave it to the default/middle position as, right now, is basically useless...

BONUS:

  • Performance Mode @ 60fps is recommended on XSX|PS5 (actual visual differences are not so big, but the jump from 30 to 60fps is huge and 60fps are also locked after latest patch)
  • Turn Film Grain: Off: as it will improve both clarity and contrast of the picture.

Enjoy ;)

For this game do you recommend HGIG on a G3 since it has 1500 nits and the game is 1000 nits? Should I stick with filmmaker mode and allm?

techoptimized

On G3 always stick to ALLM + FMM + DTM: On. It will always look better than HGIG, even if you can't reach 4.000 nits with it.

Did you disable motion blur?
