Sorry for the delay on this but the holiday weekend pushed things a bit! But now we're finally ready to go ape.

Somewhere out there, there has to be something better than man... but you won't find a better discussion on 1968's Planet of The Apes than THIS! (Well, we didn't really look. We're just assuming.) This has been known for decades as a sci-fi classic, and we're eager to get down to monkey business (GET IT?) and give it a rewatch!

Next week's episode is WATERWORLD.

The book does have a twist ending of sorts, just a different one. At the end the main character returns to earth in his ship, and finds that in his absence Earth has also been taken over by apes. I wouldn't say the book is any more satirical than the movie is, but it's been a while since I read it.

weighing in on the opening by voting for Shawn's riff on the Simpsons musical.

There’s a bigger twist than that. The whole book has a framing story of two space travelers that stumble upon Taylor’s journal and read it, referring to it as an “outlandish story.” We’re led to believe that the whole planet of apes is the outlandish part, but in the end it’s revealed that the two explorers are apes and they think it’s outlandish because humans aren’t intelligent enough to write.

Rocco, have you seen the tv series and animated series? I love the entire original franchise.

I totally get Shawns side, everyone I try to show slower sci-fi films have Shawn's reaction. And then I have to spend so much energy being Rocco like "no its actually really good!! Its a bit slow! But the message! The symbolism!" But this and the other 4 are my favorites. The O.G is a top 5 favorite movie for me. Edit: I posted before I finished the ep. I agree 100% of what of Rocco said about the sequels. We actually watched the 2nd one in Theology and our teacher used it as a lesson to kinda talk about some religious themes and such - it was pretty neat. I don't remember the lesson because it was like nearly 20 years ago. But it was neat. Anyway. Weird movies.

I personally think War of the Planet of the Apes is a 10/10
