Paul Raci did not win the Oscar. Daniel Kaluuya won for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah. He had one of the more memorable speeches of the night when he was grateful for his parents having sex. How could you forget, Rocco!

Awesome set design—the RV, the deaf home, and Lou’s Dad’s house helped tell the story so well. I also loved seeing Ruben’s healthy routines in the beginning of the movie; it revealed a lot about where he was as a person.

I liked this movie. I thought it was done really well, but I'm not shaking my popcorn a lot at this film. Mainly because multiple times during the movie I thought to myself that I wished this was a documentary. I think it's an interesting subject, which was simply -- what is it like to be a musician who starts to go deaf, and I think there's enough people out there for a filmmaker to follow around real life people who go through this and I would rather watch that than have actors pretend to go through it. That being said all the acting was great.

Yeah a documentary on this subject would be awesome, and much more in depth and personal. But I think a fictional movie is an easier way of spreading awareness. More people are likely to pay attention to this than a doc. Having both would be great as companion pieces to one another, though. Kind of like the Mr. Rogers documentary and the film with Tom Hanks.

Also I've seen Jucifer in person so it was wild to hear they were loosely based on them as that crossed my mind when I watched this a few months ago.

I want to thank you for doing this movie podcast. It has been a new found favorite thing of mine. I love watching movies and keep a list of all the movies i watch every year with the day i watched them and the rank i give them. I started this whole list thing in 2018 with the goal to watch as many new movies as possible. I also have been watching your podcasts every tuesday since about 2013 and this sounds cheesy as fuck but feel like im hanging out with friends whenever i do. My favorite segments are whenever you guys would review movies on the podcast, so i love this new dedicated show for it. I re subbed to the patreon just for this show. Love that its introducing me to some movies i wouldve possibly never seen. This movie fucking rocked and felt like a horror movie to me. Good vibes to ya and lets keep watchin movies!

I thought the conversation about accessibility implants was interesting, especially Shawn's misconception that accessibility devices completely address the disability. It's also something that occurs with physical disabilities too; people see bionic arms and think "oh well they look like human arms and can be controlled similar to one, so it must be just as good" when that's not always the case and for some people no device is actually better. A lot of the marketing and promotion of some accessibility devices cater to more abled audiences and serve as viral "feel-good" fluff when the reality is they can often just be bandaid solutions to problems that may require more in-depth ones. https://www.inputmag.com/culture/cyborg-chic-bionic-prosthetic-arm-sucks

As someone who also sometimes avoids good movies because they might be a series of bummer moments, I was surprised to see that Shawn liked this one. I'd appreciate a "Shawn's Not-So-Much-of-a-Bummer Seal of Approval" for such movies
