USB seems as common place now as Ford Mondeos did in the 90s. So here's a video exploring what ports we used beforehand.

I'm sure most of us already know all of this, but its a nostalgic trip none the less.

I hope you're having a great bank holiday weekend, for those of us who are having a  bank holiday weekend.

What did we use before USB? | Nostalgia Nerd

Welcome to the evolution of USB... The path from the original IBM PC to now, has been a relatively short one, but still one tangled in webs of cables. USB seems so common place now, it's sometimes hard to imagine what we used before it? Well, thanks to a multitude of connections such as RS-232 (Serial), Centronics Parellel and the splendid Gameport, we were able to use many a device without issue.... maybe. ** For exclusive videos, mystery boxes and other rewards, please consider supporting me at; https://www.patreon.com/nostalgianerd?ty=h ** ☟Sharing☟ If you wish to share this video in forums, social media, on your website, *please do so*! Now we need a video for the "mother of all adapters" that takes a mouse from USB to something like serial but uses all the connectors in-between.

Really interesting video, but i don't miss RS232 Port. Making sure the cable was right (i had, still have, a book called RS232 made easy which detailed a lot of common RS232 connections), also IRQ and address settings. On the plus side RS232 did give us the classic Spitting Image sketch about RS232 Interface leads.
