Loved the rental car story! I work at a cybersecurity firm on our “specialist services” team and have done extensive work in securing cars over the past year. I’m not sure how common knowledge it is but many newer vehicles have diagnostic options accessible over the on-board diagnostics port to allow dealers and shops to remove paired devices from the in-vehicle infotainment system with just a few commands sent over the CAN network.
