Comcast wants to control what you do online. Do you want to let them?

The new chairman of the FCC was a top lawyer at Verizon. And now he's calling for a vote to kill net neutrality, as a gift to his former employer. So on December 7th we're protesting outside Verizon retail stores across the U.S.

Whoa whoa whoa... This is a good thing to stop net neutrality. The name "Net Neutrality" is a camouflaged title. If this were a good thing then I should be able to be on the Industrial Internet Consortium board. But there is no way you, me or anyone in this group will be allowed to join UNLESS you are one of these companies. Think about it. What department within our government does an amazing job for the people? ANYTIME, the government sticks their hands into something good always gets messed up. The Internet will prosper greatly without the government sticking their hands into it. This is a way for them to ultimately start taxing it on a level that we have not seen.

The wording is a problem, the FCC's names are FAR more misleading. Neutrality in this case is simply "A packet is a packet. Pass it." Obviously network management is an exception but it's fair to ask that a packet from netflix or facebook not be slowed because a vendor (comcast) has a competing service. Nor should comcast, who I already pay my "fair share" of the cost for my connection be able to ask more of netflix just because I requested the packet. That's extortion. "Nice packet, it'd be a SHAME if something happened to it." - If Net Neutrality, a widely understood concept of the original peering process that built the internet is rescinded, I guarantee gaming performance will drop for a few months right before Comcast offers their new INNOVATION "Gamer Blast" where they stop throttling UDP packets. It will happen, more money will not go into anything but traffic management and networks/isps will simply charge more for not crappy (artificially throttled) service.

And don't forget that comcast already paid 18 MILLION in bribes to government officials last year. Sorry, lobbied government officials. They (Comcast/Verizon/Centurylink) are not your friend unless you work for them, invest in them or are lobbied by them.

And businesses are better than governments? You kidding me? The problem is humans and their gluttony. Greed man!

My point is that whether it is the FCC, FTC, or even the IRS. None of them can regulate the internet for the betterment of us the actual users. SOMEONE will be profiting from Net Neutrality but it won't be us. They should reduce government spending and prove they can be responsible but we all know that is an impossible request. Another thought...If Net Neutrality is such a great idea then why hasn't government imposed it on the airline industry? Speed is speed, right? All airlines should be flying at the same speed. Now, Gapster brings up a VERY good point. Greed. Back when I got my 4-year degree I had to go to a bank to get a student loan and after I graduated I had 10 years to pay it off. Now they have nationalized that processed and removed banks from the process all together. Now we are witnessing a huge organization built by the government and its student debt is estimated to be in the trillions and students & parents are seeing loan payments exceeding house payments. In this example, government used a private institution and greed has taken over. A person with a legitimate bankruptcy need can not get out.
