Hey hey Patrons!

We're back with some more Cyberpunk and shiiiiiit we're HACKING THE PLANET in this one in a big way!

This was only one episode but TOON DRASES are back for one more go and they got Cyberpunked this time! We finally found the problem and we SWEAR this will never happen again.

The gang's on a big rescue mission but it goes sideways and gets Julio annihilated!

We get another mopey look at the stars with Lucy and David, who is looking damn near unrecognizable with all the Sandivistan augments he's had!

And we get some classic tragic Anime Backstory with Lucy and why she's so good at Netrunning!

Morgan's thoughts on (a) the whole world sucking so there's nowhere to escape to even if you could get out of your current crappy situation, and (b) the way the plot isn't giving a driving focus to give a sense of progress towards a goal, are a damn good summation of what cyberpunk (the genre) is often deliberately aiming for. There's no dragon to slay that will magically restore life to the barren kingdom and nobody but the 1% of the 1% is ever going to own real estate. It's noir updated with mega-corps instead of moguls and an eye towards the impact of technology (especially its dehumanizing and alienating aspects). And since it's so hard for people to find meaning, the best they can do is thrill-seeking and money. (Even big, scary corpo guy Tanaka was essentially just upper-middle-management hooked on snuff films, probably just to feel something.) Cyberpunk has a strong dystopian strain, and works that lean into that side of the genre can definitely be off-putting or lead to audience apathy if you're looking for something less relentlessly depressing to watch. It can also be a really compelling watch, and you guys are bringing up a lot of cool observations about what this story is doing (and not doing) and interesting perspectives on how well that works for you -- great reaction. Love the nuanced thoughts on the show and on catfishing cybersex trolling.
