most of the fandom hates this season but i think the entire fandom can agree that Eps 7 and 8 are THE BEST of korra episode wise anyways Season wise 3 and 4 are amazing

(Dustin probably already knows this but I like to chime in anyway) This is the first of a few episodes where the animation is pure Miyazaki. The spirits in this one are straight out of Yubaba's bathhouse, and Wan's elk-thing is modeled after Ashitaka's mount from Princess Mononoke

I actually stopped after 2x06 back when the show was airing. My friend and I were watching it together but we got busy, and I kind of just forgot to go back and watch it on my own-weird seeing as how Season Two is SUPER engaging. Next thing I knew it's 14 months later and I saw a bunch of stuff online about the last scene of the series finale and of course I had no idea how that could have happened because the last episode I watched was the fucking Sting! So I picked the show back up and this was the episode I was on, and after watching it I was kicking myself so hard.

Dustin's right, these two episodes are the highlight of the entire show, I wanted an entire series about Wan or literally any Avatar other than Korra at the time lol. I remember you guys asking about all the lore origin stuff in S1 and I was just waiting for this bit lmao

Ci-Ci

Was just about to comment this! The oasis is definitely a nod the the bath house and bridge in spirited away. Also the spirits def take inspiration style wise :)

Ci-Ci

haha now I am jonesing for the next part :D

Ci-Ci

Yeah I feel they will start to like Korra as character a lot more through season 3-4. They really improve and evolve her character :) For some reason in season 2, especially in the first half they make her act unlikeable in ways they didn't in season 1. Like she was stubborn and naive in season 1 but still had an endearing quality. It seems they just lacked nuance with her in a lot of this season.

This is where my crush on Steven Yeun started lol. Stinky the Avatar. For some reason a lot of reactors miss that while the lion turtles gave people abilities, the actual art of bending was something that not many people knew until they watched natural sources like dragons or the dragon spirit. I'm pretty sure Wan taught future firebenders the dancing dragon.

Jackie

Wan (万) means ten thousand in Chinese!

William Timmins

It took me a few watches to pick up on that distinction. I thought initially 'wait, they totally retconned that!' But, no... we were told people LEARNED bending from various creatures, not that that's where the power came from.

Next episode is Top Tier

Steven Yeun could play a real-life Avatar Wan as well.

Briana J

@William yeah I definitely didn't notice it at first as a teenager watching this I was just like "oh cool" LOL but as I got older I thought the same about them retconning. But I did notice how at first people were just throwing the fire but after Wan did the dragon dance he was actually firebending.

love the fact you guys weren't excited about korra losing her memory but it was a great plot device to have her reconnect with past avatars <3 so excited :D

so we know the lion turtle taught aang to energy bend, and we find out there are dozens of lion turtles. the lion turtles gave bending powers to the people at the time. so it’s safe to say that every lion turtle is able to energy bend. we also hear raava call the air lion turtle “ancient one” so lion turtles were around even before spirits. just some more cool lore!
