I literally look forward to these reactions every week, like a new episode of a tv show coming out haha Your guys' commentary = UNMATCHED. Pumped for next week! Fun Fact: so cool you guys brought up Star Wars because Dave Filoni, creator of Clone Wars, actually was the lead director of ATLA for season 1 when he got the offer to do clone wars. As an homage to ATLA, he created a clone character named Appo in the 501st who has a downwards arrow painted on his helmet. :]

Greg Baldwin's voice acting is seriously so impressive this episode, to mimic such a distinct performance. I didn't even realize that it was a different voice actor when I was a kid.

Chelle

If anyone didn’t feel at least somewhat emotional during Zuko and Iroh’s reunion then I think they just didn’t have emotions to begin with lol. Also, Yangchen’s wisdom to Aang is some of the best written dialogue in ATLA and is very underrated… don’t @ me

Dennis Wolf

ready for the most epic 2 episodes ever created in history of television? hell yeah

The Lion Turtle isn't an allusion to Jesus or God or anything like that. But it is one of the most ancient beings in the world. You'll learn more about them in Korra.

And I also have to say, Iroh is the perfect father/parent figure. I love the subtle, but impactful moment when Sokka asks what his destiny is, and Iroh turns it back and just asks "What do you think it is?" and then helps guide him when he gives his ideas. Such a sophisticated, inspired work of art/story telling.

Len

So pumped for the last episodes!!! Also, I'm not sure if this was mentioned before (I'm sorry if it has been!) but I wanted to give a heads up for 1 specific episode in Korra. In season 4 episode 2 there's a spoiler in the subtitles, so make sure to turn them off so you don't get spoiled :)!

Agreed. What other children's show deals with themes as important as personal fulfillment (spiritual or otherwise) vs. social responsibility? Or even non-children show, for that matter? So good.

Timothy Falk

You can blame Tolkien for Narnia being a Jesus thing - C.S. Lewis was once an atheist too. Tolkien talked him out of it.

The part with Zuko just basically preparing for the worst with Iroh makes sense to me from his perspective. From the audience's point of view we all know Iroh would never hate Zuko, but the last time Zuko begged a family member and was literally crying his face got burned so I understand it. I was in college when the finale came out and my friend and I were balling our eyes out during this scene. They aired the four part finale back to back and it's one of my most cherished memories. Loved reliving it with you guys :)

selina

loool bumi singlehandedly deindustrializing his city cracks me the fuck up every time 😂 god I love him. also, I love that you guys picked up on his meditation before the lion turtle; I think a big piece that people miss when they criticize the lion turtle for being a deus ex machina (totally disagree on that one) is that aang was meditating for guidance, basically asking the world for help. makes sense that he gets a response from everything we know in universe. and I love that we get a world-turtle in this series! they were teased in the library episode of atla, I think before the creators knew exactly what they wanted to do w them? and they do come back in korra, but I personally hate the majority of what korra brings to the universe so I ignore that shit. also love everything his past spirits say--kyoshi is so badass "personally I don't see the difference" and yangchen is so elevated. "You can't keep yourself pure, you got a world to save." gives Aang's commitment to his beliefs all the more weight.

Avi Chetri

Man, I didn't have this level of emotion the times I watch the reunion scene. You guys really make this worth the while!

as a longtime bourbonnais girl, i never realized that chicagoans say "fer" instead of "for" until i moved to ohio. also, this episode is by far my favorite in the series. the lore, the emotion, WOW! also the title is perfect because you see all the old masters we met along the way, plus the four avatars Aang spoke to are all old masters, AND you could very much argue that the lion turtle is an old master as well. fucking phenomenal!

David Proby

One fun fact about the Order of the White Lotus is it’s based off a real historical religious secret organization in Ancient China called The White Lotus Society that contributed to the decline of the Qing dynasty in the White Lotus Rebellion

Michelle

i think we know pretty clearly by now that atla is a kids show, however like morgan said, it ceirtainly went deeper into certain issues like if its right to take a life if its for good, spiritual fullfilment and war and peace that most other things for children do. star wars, lord of the rings, you know those are also for children, and they dont really get into this stuff that much. that's why i love atla so much, it really is a master of its tone.

I’d like to point out that the eclipse only lasted 8 minutes, so Bumi literally reconquered his city by himself in 8 minutes

Anonymous

Its awesome in the reunion scene to see Zuko's character arc from beginning to end in regards to finding Iroh sleeping: - "Wake my Uncle! Tell him i found the avatar!"- Zuko s1e1......and in the series finale, finds iroh sleeping and waits patiently for him to wake up on his own

GYRECK GAMING

If you go back and rewatch the show, they actually have lion turtle imagery in art and architecture all throughout the series. They especially focus on it briefly in the sunken library when Aang finds a picture of one and asks everyone to check it out. Sakka's master had a lot of Lion Turtle stuff in his place as well. | : ] '

Isis Peoples

Also the mythology of the world on a turtles back is way older than jesus......like most mythologies and religions

Isis Peoples

Hey Guys!!!! *in my best sean voice Would yall consider a live to chat the end of ATLA!!! We could laugh cry and count cabbage merchant appearances, maybe get that duck! Now I'm getting greedy in my request, but seriously. Especially since yall finished the show a while ago, it could serve as a opportunity to look back

Elias Flores

Its really nice to see you guys get so into it and even tearing up 🥺😢 lol its a bad ass show! And the ending. Damn!!!! Amazing...!!!!!! ♥️💯 I can't wait for the next 2! We want it now!!!!! 😩 lol

Jackie

Goddamnit, I have to wait for next week!!!! I cannot wait for you guys to conclude this series!

Mathies

So, the theory i've always had is that the lionturtle has such an ancient odor about him that it completely covers Aangs scent so it doesn't reach Nyla. weird how they never explained how "he doesn't exist" though.

Jai Nelson

Just gotta say that was an exceptionally fun episode with you guys. This fellow godless communist had a great time. Your reaction to this show has to be fake though, how else would you have known that in the next episode they all start doing fat rails before the battle? Excited for Kora! Unlike Avatar I’ve only seen it once, so that’s gonna be fun. Yip yip motherfuckers.

SeanTankTop

Jay you are one of the OGs!! my friend and we are so greatful and glad to have you boss

Mo

Great reaction guys! That quip about statues though 😂

Jam

The Creators have confirmed that the odor is why Nyla couldn't smell aang. The lion turtle is so old that the odor is basically recognized as the earths odor hence why she didn't think he existed.

SeanTankTop

We are definitely gonna schedule one! We'll let yall know in our FINAL POST!!!

rickie woodson

morgan got real dark. me:: cant wait to see how the world has changed over the years in korra. morgan: korra is post appa death time. :(

Kris Ivory

If I recall correctly, when you guys first started watching you were all "We got a lot of recommendations for this cartoon idk but we'll give it a shot" and now you've got screenshots of you all tearing up and Morgan hugging her stuffed Appa. Welcome to the fandom.

Jacob Shaw

My old man passed away about 10 years ago and he caught bits and pieces of the series with me when it first came out. And whenever see a certain scene from This Is Us as well as the reunion between Zuko and Iroh, I start crying without fail because it reminds me of him. Always believed in me even when I couldn't and despite all my flaws and failures. And I would give anything to hug him one more time. That's why I'm glad you guys decided to 'experience' this show like we all have. I kind of put Scrubs and ATLA in the same category because it can be so many things at once: slapstick and situational comedy to spirituality and inspiration to creative and breakneck fast action to tear jerking moments, sometimes all in the same episode. 🥲

Today is my brother’s birthday. He commit suicide in March. I knew it would be hard today, but thank you for the diversion and the honest love of something outside yourself. I don’t know you, I’ve only been to Midway and O’Hare, but rest assured I’ll make time to lift a glass at the Burlington as soon as I can. I love y’all, keep being awesome.

SeanTankTop

Thank you for sharing that Jacob. It means the world, and that moment is truly everything we wanted it to be for us and it was a sense of comfort for us when we needed it as well! That's what great art does and we're so fortunate to have you hanging with us as we discover that for ourselves. Warm regards, Sean, Dustin and Morgan

SeanTankTop

We’re so sorry for your loss Luke and thank you so much for sharing. You get in touch next time you roll though and the first round is on us, friend.

Jason Lupas

You know ive seen a lot of reaction to this episode and most have said why cant just aang kill the fire lord ? or just kill him etc etc . but I really like how they tackled this problem . I mean just think about it . Aang who is what 12 or 13 years old and is saying things like I have to kill this person . Thats a lot asking from him not to mention everyone is looking up to him to be their savior at his age .

jonathan foster

Morgan talking about the statue had me rolling😂😭 it’s so true

HazePack309

Bed cheese is the grossest thing I’ve heard on this channel 🤣
