Unfortunately, Cryoclaire's big trip up north to MCM Scotland threw our production schedule off, so no new page today. Sorry! By way of apology, here's a little exclusive slice of behind-the-scenes concept work.

In Dreamspace, the look of Dan's DS-909 implant was never 100% consistent, so Claire sat down and drew up a "canonical" design for the Crow Bar scene in Issue 1 - and cooked up a few more implants while she was at it. Dan's big, relatively sophisticated implant is designed for people who create trips as well as consume them, but not every mindtripper needs the full range of op tools - that's where the smaller, more streamlined models like the 303 and 606 come in.

Meanwhile, across the ocean, there's a whole nation of VR users who aren't sticking decade-old "reclaimed" biomedical therapy equipment into their skulls, but instead can enjoy next-gen models like the Voyager(TM), a fairly typical example of what American consumers have access to.

After Claire finished her designs, I took a crack at reinterpreting those ideas in Illustrator. I showed off some of the results in an early Wirepedia; the rest has been sitting on my hard drive ever since. The bottom row shows some implant cover concepts I made up on my ownsome around the same time - the one on the far right bears an official licensing sticker from the Stradanian government, revealing both the implant's class and the expiry date on the license itself.

From an artistic/lore standpoint: designs are pretty great, love the B2 sticker. From an engineering standpoint: this picture can serve as a guide on "how to trigger a hardware designer 101".

Yeah, sadly engineering isn't my specialty :p Everyone's already had a go at attempting to re-design the implant we posted in the extras. -Cryo
