This hit way harder in the anime

Comments

Off topic - did y’all see the news about the new chainsawman movie/teaser?

Nick McGuire

After this arc you should talk about the series and what you think of it so far, predictions for the future stuff like that!

Changsta

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this goodbye scene. It still hits like a truck and I still cry.

I’m me

you will be crying alot more, every Arc gets sadder and sadder

T K

im sure you heard the news but wit studio (aot, sxf, vinland saga) is remaking one piece from the beginning and more faithful to the manga 🤯 cant wait to watch that with yall too lol

Valeriu Irimia

you will learn more about the fisherman being slaves from this Arlong story and with future arcs, so far i think the anime wants you to see them all as being bad since they are the next enemies. You'll get used that in this anime every detail matters and stuff you might be missing out now because you lack the full picture are gonna be super important when they decide to bring it back hundreds of episodes later :D

MARMAR

They still hold a sub position like in the LA

Kee

I don't know if that was mentioned but, fun fact; Kid Sanji voice actor is the same as Konohamaru from Naruto and Pikachu.

Surya

We are introduced to slavery later on, but the manga and anime make it very clear that all kinds of races are enslaved, humans included and not just fishmen. The live action made it seem like fishmen as an entire race were brought into slavery but thats not the case, most fishmen were/are free just like most humans are free in the one piece world

Yoona Kim

first time watching this how many episodes does this cover the live action one

hurryupmode

I think your comment is kind of reductive. I wouldn't call Fishmen "free".

hurryupmode

Much like Garp, the anime gives the reveal about slavery and discrimination MUCH LATER, so we mentally reframe the Arlong Park arc with the added context. The TV show didn't know if it would get a second season, so it needed to showcase the future depth of the series by having the knowledge that fishmen are often slaves and discriminated against, inform the live action Arlong's performance and his lines.

SomeoneElse

The oppression of Fishmen is definitely a thing but it's not as in your face here as in the Live Action The LA REALLY made sure you didn't miss it lol. It's much more subtle here. For me it mimics real life, like when you're a kid/early in the series you don't really understand those kinds of things, but when you get older and see the world, you come to really learn etc. I know you guys probably don't even want to be told this stuff but it's hard hearing those kinds of comments and not saying anything 😅

Galaxy Shogun

It goes to episode 45, however they move the promise on the barrel scene forward from around episode 60

mamimumemo

The LA cut out the bow down scene because it wont make sense in "western culture" especially because Sanji's actor is white. But I love this scene in anime so I was hoping they would add it in LA 😂

Overbyte

Seeing yall try to unspoil is the funniest thing ive seen Edit: People always go on about pacing but im in the 500s and still have no problem with it except for the fillers which i skip

J. Arlo Mullinix

The One Piece Try Not to Cry Challenge officially begins here with Sanji's goodbye scene.

Johnny Fleehart

I don't comment too often, but when Ron said "relatable" when reffering to the live action version I felt like that was perfect word choice. I am glad Michelle, and you are watching the anime. It's so good haha. I'd love to hear what you decide is better in the future. Happy holidays as well!

j m

Yayy. We got the first tears of the series ! 😁 This may be hard to believe but OP actually has some pretty damn sad stories that will make you bawl even more than Sanji's story. I hope you guys keep watching.

101mavrik

That little puppy squeal from Michelle right when zeff calls out to Sanji 😂 Welcome to the emotional roller coaster that is one piece. Enjoy the ride.

Karaka

The whole slavery thing is a part of the One Piece Anime/Manga aswell but is mentioned in more detail later on. You’re gonna come across every kind of World Problems in this show like Slavery, Poverty, Drug Abuse, R4pe, Racism etc… some of the stuff are hinted at but not actually shown for censorship reasons since a lot of kids also watch/read One Piece. Oda tries his hardest to make One Piece for all ages

Liana Pagodova

I'm fully cought up and pacing never bothered me except maybe the wholecake island

Phyllis

Hachi!!! 😆

Phyllis

Sanji parting with the Zeff and cooks never fail to make me tear up. I think Netflix change up the way they said goodbye so the people in western countries can understand and relate. Netflix dropped a spoiler early about the slavery info in the Live Action. You don't get much info about the fishman slavery until later episodes. Also Netflix left out the Octopus character Hachi in the Live Action. 😤 Your delayed reaction about the blue short hair lady is so funny. 🤣 So exciting to see your excitement! 😁

RorotheShadow

Yeah, the fact that the fishmen were enslaved is also something that the live action squeezed into the 8 episodes for the plot. In truth, it's only much, much later that we find out that the fishmen were once enslaved by humans. I think around episode 300 or later

panashe garise

all imma say is yall aint finished with Sanji yet😂😭

Mu Nanyo

Oda is a fan of revolutionists and includes a lot of marxist ideas in his work and those include lots of themes about oppression and overthrowing the rich/powerful/bourgeoisie. Fun pirate story is just the tip of the iceberg.

Mu Nanyo

There was a guy credited as Hachi (the guy who gets cleaned out in the cardgame with nami) but he also looks like another character from the manga so who knows.

Coolfun1234e

Lol don’t underestimate the ONE PIECE world they are 1000 time more advanced then our world lol

tris273

Everyone has his own special "fall in love with one piece moment". Many people got in the first real "Arc" Arabasta or even more ppl loved one piece from Ep500on. But Sanjis seperation from zeff was my holy grail back then. Balled my tears out even now😅. Proud Men that cry is a rare golden theme in all media.

Michael H

Chouchou was always a rollercoaster for me. I would start to tear up at his story, and then he would bark…lol

Michael H

The day has finally come. The day that Ron’s hopes and dreams were dashed as he hears Arlong’s true voice…

Usher

It's funny how most of the fanbase prefers to say "Shichibukai" over "warlords"

branco marolia

Atleast for the fishmen and their story you guys will have to set aside the live action aspects cause the rushed a huge chunk of back story into 8 episodes there is a huge tragic arc for the fishmen Arlong and octopus guy are super important so atleast for a better experience it would be better to ignore the live action when it comes to the fishmen and even Sanji and Zorro

Surya

free in the sense that their entire race weren't slaves at any point in time like it was outright stated in the live action

Génesis Arias

Not gonna lie is cute to see how you guys think are going super fast

LUÍS FERNANDO GOIS LOBÃO

shichibukai already translates to the whole phrase "seven warlords of the sea", so it's a lot easier. Also anime fans in general prefer to use the japanese names of things.

LUÍS FERNANDO GOIS LOBÃO

I think they're gonna try to make the entire east blue (or at least up to the live action) in 24 episodes. It's gonna be super tight with things happening all the time, it will be great. Also if you see it from the cost perspective, they can make 24 well produced episodes of anime with 30 million dolars, less than the cost for 1 and a half episodes of the live action.

LUÍS FERNANDO GOIS LOBÃO

I saw a comment saying that the racism part is more subtle in the anime, but that's utter bulshit. In the arlong park arc it is indeed very subtle, but later on we have an entire arc dedicated only to this theme that goes really deep, it even does paralels with people like Martin Luther king and Malcomn X (their ideologies, not their identities).

SirGeel

This is one of the only shows that can continue to bring tears to my eyes, theres so many more emotional/wonderful moments in this show so enjoyyyy the ride!

Marcus

I hear people say warlords just as often if not more than i hear Shichibukai, i myself call them warlords.

Mu Nanyo

The voice is more intimidating in OPLA but his character is definitely more villainous and imposing in the anime Funfact the VA also plays the goat Asuma from Naruto

harinder

Naruto and One Peak, GOATED <3

Mu Nanyo

In the manga Sanji was even seen using a VR den den mushi

Darren Metts

This is why I didn’t really like the live action cuz the anime is just so much better I couldn’t stop My mind from comparing it

Mojira

LA didn't make any sense, that's why. Most of the strawhat just joins randomly in LA, while their depth to all joining strawhat in MANGA and somewhat in Anime. The remake of OP is going to totally take over when it comes out.

Ryan

The straw hats didnt "randomly join" nor do I think it "didnt make any sense". The LA just didnt have the luxury to fully flesh out the characters like the anime/manga did, but their reasons and intentions for joining up are still the same...

Darren Metts

Yea whoever told you to watch the live action before the anime is an idiot

Nick Obeso

Dude why are you always complaining about the live action these last few episodes omg 🤣🤦‍♂️
